Rural Lands in the Auckland Land District open for Sale or Selection.

RANFURLY, Governor.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the one-hundred-and-thirty-sixth section of “The Land Act, 1892,” I, Uchter John Mark, Earl of Ranfurly, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, having received the report of the Surveyor-General in this behalf, as in the said section is provided, do hereby declare that the rural lands enumerated in the Schedule hereto shall be open for sale or selection on and after the twenty-ninth day of April, one thousand nine hundred and three; and also that the lands mentioned in the said Schedule may, at the option of the applicant, be purchased for cash, or be selected for occupation with right of purchase or on lease in perpetuity, or, in respect of any land containing or supposed to contain any metal, mineral, or valuable stone, be selected on lease in perpetuity only; and I do hereby also fix the prices at which the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased, as mentioned in the said Schedule hereto, and do declare that the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased under and subject to the provisions of “The Land Act, 1892.”

Altitude varying from sea-level to 420 ft. above sea-level. Section 73, broken land, covered with mixed forest; well watered, and fronting formed road. Section 74, broken and undulating pastoral land, comprising one fine valley through which the Maire Stream runs; about 50 acres of fern in patches, balance mixed forest, containing 116 green and 40 dry kauri-trees, comprising 388,000 superficial feet of marketable timber; fronts formed road and Awaroa River. Section 27, broken pastoral land, well watered; a few patches of fern, balance mixed forest, containing 184 green and 22 dry kauri-trees (or about 499,000 superficial feet of marketable timber) scattered through the section; frontage to Awaroa River. Section 6, broken pastoral land; well watered, and covered with mixed forest, except a few patches of fern on bank of the Awaroa River; frontage to formed road.

These sections are situated from three to five miles from Herekino Post-office, and about six miles by tidal and navigable water from the entrance to Whangape Harbour. The soil is a strong loam of light colour upon soft sandstone. The forest comprises taraire, tawa, towai, mahoe, rewarewa, kohekohe, rata, puriri, miro, hinau, hoihere, rangiora, makumaku, raurekau, nikau, tipau, manuka, paate, korau, and ponga ferns, tanekaha, and a few scattered totara and kahikatea. The following sections are weighted with valuation for the kauri timber they contain, as follows: Section 74, containing 388,000 superficial feet kauri timber, £194; Section 27, containing 499,000 superficial feet kauri timber, £249 10s.: these valuations to be paid immediately the application has been approved of.

IN pursuance of the powers vested in me by “The Animals Protection Act, 1880,” and “The Animals Protection Act 1880 Amendment Act, 1886,” I, Uchter John Mark, Earl of Ranfurly, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, do by this notification prohibit absolutely the taking or killing of the huia (Heteralocha acutirostris), a bird indigenous to the said Colony of New Zealand, and I do hereby declare that this notification shall take effect on the publication thereof in the New Zealand Gazette.

As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor, this seventh day of March, one thousand nine hundred and three.

Rural Lands in the Marlborough Land District open for Selection on Lease in Perpetuity.

RANFURLY, Governor.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the one-hundred-and-thirty-sixth section of “The Land Act, 1892,” I, Uchter John Mark, Earl of Ranfurly, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, having received the report of the Surveyor-General in this behalf, as in the said section is provided, do hereby declare that the rural lands described in the Schedule hereto shall be open for selection on and after the twenty-eighth day of April, one thousand nine hundred and three; and also that the lands mentioned in the said Schedule may be selected on lease in perpetuity only, in accordance with the provisions of section one hundred and twenty-one of the said Act, as they contain, or are supposed to contain, metals, minerals, or valuable stone; and I do hereby also fix the prices at which the said lands shall be leased, as mentioned in the said Schedule hereto, and do declare that the said lands shall be leased under and subject to the provisions of “The Land Act, 1892,” and “The Mining Act, 1898,” and amendments.

Weighted with £66 10s., valuation for improvements, consisting of hut, £10; 10 acres cleared and grassed, £10; 43 chains of fencing, £21 10s.; and 100 acres surface-sown, £25.
