Prison proclaimed.

A PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS by an Act of the General Assembly of New Zealand intituled “The Prisons Act, 1882,” it is provided that the Governor may, by Proclamation published in the Gazette, declare any house, building, enclosure, or place to be a prison; and from and after the gazetting of any such Proclamation, or from any time later specified in the Proclamation, such house, building, enclosure, or place shall be deemed a prison:

Now, therefore, I, Uchter John Mark, Earl of Ranfurly, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in pursuance of the above-recited power and authority, do hereby declare that the buildings known as the Immigration Barracks, at Somes Island, and all enclosures used or occupied therewith, shall, from and after the publication of this Proclamation in the Gazette, be a prison, known as the Somes Island Prison, within the meaning and for the purposes of “The Prisons Act, 1882.”

Given under the hand of His Excellency the Right Honourable Uchter John Mark, Earl of Ranfurly; Knight Grand Cross of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George; Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over His Majesty’s Colony of New Zealand and its Dependencies; and issued under the Seal of the said Colony, at the Government House, at Wellington, this tenth day of March, in the year of our Lord one thousand nine hundred and three.

A PROCLAMATION.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities vested in me by “The Municipal Corporations Act, 1900,” I, Uchter John Mark, Earl of Ranfurly, Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, do hereby proclaim and declare the area described in the Schedule hereto to be a borough under the said Act on and from the sixteenth day of March, one thousand nine hundred and three; that the name of such borough shall be the Borough of Inglewood; that the said borough shall be an undivided borough; and that the number of Councillors to be elected thereto shall be six, exclusive of the Mayor.

And I do further proclaim and declare that Robert Ellis, of Inglewood, shall be the Returning Officer to conduct the first election of Mayor and Councillors of the said borough, and also the Town Clerk and the person to prepare the district electors roll for the purposes of the said first election.

And, lastly, I do proclaim and declare that the first election of Mayor of the said borough shall be held on Wednesday, the eighth day of April, one thousand nine hundred and three; and the first election of Councillors on Wednesday, the eighth day of April, one thousand nine hundred and three; and that the first meeting of the Council of the said borough shall be held on Wednesday, the fifteenth day of April, one thousand nine hundred and three, at half-past seven o’clock in the evening, at the Town Board Office, Inglewood.


SCHEDULE.

BOROUGH OF INGLEWOOD.

ALL that area in the Land District of Taranaki, containing by admeasurement 703 acres, more or less, situated in Block IV., Egmont Survey District. Bounded towards the north-east generally by Section No. 100 from the Waiongona Stream to the southernmost corner of the said Section No. 100; thence by the production of the south-western boundary-line of that section across the railway-line to the eastern side of the Mountain Road; thence by Section No. 179 to Wortley Road; thence by a right line across the said Wortley Road, and again by the said Section No. 179, to the Kurapete Stream: thence towards the south-east generally by the said Kurapete Stream to the north-eastern boundary-line of Section No. 119: thence towards the south-west generally by the north-eastern boundary-line of the said Section No. 119 and its production to the western side of Windsor Road; thence by Section No. 109 to the Waiongona Stream: and thence towards the north-west generally by the right bank of the said Waiongona Stream to the place of commencement.

Given under the hand of His Excellency the Right Honourable Uchter John Mark, Earl of Ranfurly; Knight Grand Cross of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George; Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over His Majesty’s Colony of New Zealand and its Dependencies; and issued under the Seal of the said Colony, at the Government House, at Wellington, this eleventh day of March, in the year of our Lord one thousand nine hundred and three.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.

At the Government Buildings, at Wellington, this twenty-eighth day of February, 1903.

Present:

THE HONOURABLE W. C. WALKER PRESIDING IN COUNCIL.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities vested in him by “The Public Domains Act, 1881,” His Excellency the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council thereof, doth hereby revoke a certain Order in Council, dated the fifteenth day of August, one thousand eight hundred and eighty-nine, making delegation of certain powers in manner as therein appears; and doth hereby, with the like advice and consent, and in respect of the land hereinafter mentioned, delegate all the powers conferred by the said Act, except the powers conferred by sections five and twelve thereof, for the period of ten years from the date hereof
