Rural Lands in the Hawke’s Bay Land District open for Sale or Selection.

RANFURLY, Governor.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the one-hundred-and-thirty-sixth section of “The Land Act, 1892,” I, Uchter John Mark, Earl of Ranfurly, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, having received the report of the Surveyor-General in this behalf, as in the said section is provided, do hereby declare that the rural lands enumerated in the Schedule hereto shall be open for sale or selection on and after the twelfth day of November, one thousand nine hundred and two; and also that the lands mentioned in the said Schedule may, at the option of the applicant, be purchased for cash, or be selected for occupation with right of purchase or on lease in perpetuity, or, in respect of any land containing or supposed to contain any metal, mineral, or valuable stone, be selected on lease in perpetuity only; and I do hereby also fix the prices at which the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased, as mentioned in the said Schedule hereto, and do declare that the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased under and subject to the provisions of “The Land Act, 1892.”

This section is situated about four miles and a half from Tolago Bay (Buckley Township). It has a frontage of about 20 chains to the Tolago Bay–Waimata dray-road. It is fenced on the south and west by a wire fence. It is open manuka-scrub country, and has been sown in grass in patches. There are a few acres of light bush in gully and near the Mangahua River. Broken country. Altitude, from 300 ft. to 600 ft.

This section is situated about eight miles from Tolago Bay (Buckley Township). It has about 50 chains frontage to the Tolago Bay–Maungatokeran dray-road. Altitude, from 500 ft. to 1,174 ft. It contains about 60 or 70 acres very good flat land, with deep soil, 20 to 30 acres of which is in grass. The balance is steep hill-face, covered with mixed bush, chiefly tawa.

About 250 acres of this section is open and covered with manuka scrub; flat and undulating, light soil. The balance is hilly land, covered with tawa, kahikatea, matai, rewarewa, manuka, &c.; soil good, and well watered. Situated about thirty-five miles from Gisborne, by a formed dray-road.

Soil light on hill-tops, but very good on lower levels; papa formation; well watered. Distant from Gisborne about forty-four miles, and accessible by the Tunanui–Mahia Road.

Second-class Land.

Valuation for improvements, 45 acres felled and grassed, £50 12s. 6d. Situated about five miles from Opoiti Bridge. Access by surveyed road up the Mangapoike and Makaretu Streams.

An area of 230 acres is manuka land, with light soil; remainder forest, with good soil. About 70 acres of the manuka land cleared and grassed, and is worth at the present time £70, although the grass is mixed with manuka scrub. The forest consists of tawa, rimu, rata, kahikatea, matai, miro, &c.; well watered; papa formation; altitude, 1,400 ft. to 1,850 ft. Situated about forty-five miles from Gisborne by formed dray-road.
