IT is hereby publicly notified that at the election to fill the ordinary vacancies, held under the provisions of “The Education Boards Election Act, 1900,” the votes recorded were as follows:—

I therefore declare ALFRED GEORGE FELL, CHARLES FERGUSON, and WILLIAM BENONI PARKER to be duly elected members of the Marlborough Education Board.

OTAMATEA COUNTY COUNCIL.
IN pursuance of the powers vested in them by “The Counties Act, 1886,” and “The Public Works Act, 1894,” and all the amendments thereof, the Otamatea County Council do hereby, by special order, declare that the roads in the recently formed Road District of Mareretu, in the Otamatea County, mentioned in the following Schedule, shall be deemed to be county roads, and under the control and management of the Otamatea County Council; all other roads being deemed to be district roads, and under the control and management of the Mareretu Road Board.
This special order shall come into force on the first day of September, one thousand nine hundred and two.
SCHEDULE.

The main road commencing at the boundary of the Paparoa Riding and ending at the boundary of the Waikiekie Riding, and intersecting or traversing Sections 210, 211, 212, 203, 200, 209, 228, 142, 143, 154, 147, 148, 151, 153, 129, 111, 110, 109, 105, 69, 61, 57, 56, 55, 54, and Sections 192, 201, 202A, 187, 190, 204, 191A, 206, 155, 150, 112, 74, 75, 70, 71, 82, 86.

The main road commencing at the boundary of the Wairau Riding and joining the abovementioned road at or near Section 128, and intersecting or traversing Sections 196, 196A, 207, 208, 174, 175, 158, 157, 149, 150, 151, 152, 128, and Sections 222, 223, 173, 172, 171, 170, 163, 162, 161, 129, all the said sections being situated in the Parish of Mareretu.
The common seal of the Chairman, Councillors, and Inhabitants of Otamatea County was affixed hereto at a meeting and by order of the Council of the said county on the twenty-second day of May, one thousand nine hundred and two, in the presence of—

OTAMATEA COUNTY COUNCIL.
IN pursuance of the powers vested in them by “The Counties Act, 1886,” and “The Public Works Act, 1894,” and all the amendments thereof, and of all other powers, if any, the Otamatea County Council do hereby, by special order, make and ordain the following by-laws for the Otamatea County, that is to say:—

No person shall take or drive over any bridge or culvert under the care, control, or management of the Otamatea County Council any machine or vehicle of a greater weight, inclusive of any load thereon, than one ton and a half if such machine or vehicle have not more than one pair of wheels, or three tons if such machine or vehicle have more than one pair of wheels.

For the purpose of computing the respective weights referred to in clause one of these by-laws,—
(a.) Forty cubic feet of firewood shall be deemed to weigh fourteen hundredweight.
(b.) Five hundred superficial feet of kauri shall be deemed to weigh fifteen hundredweight.
(c.) Five hundred superficial feet of puriri, totara, rimu, or kahikatea shall be deemed to weigh one ton. -
No person shall take, lead, or drive any horse, engine, agricultural or other machine, or any vehicle over any bridge of a greater span than ten feet under the control of the Council at other than a walking pace.

No person shall, whilst driving a vehicle over any road under the control of the Council, fasten or lock, or permit to be fastened or locked, any wheel of such vehicle so that such fastening or locking may act or serve the purpose of a brake.

The Council may call upon any person engaged in hauling heavy traffic over any of the roads under the control of the Council to enter into a bond to the Council to insure to the benefit of the Council, with or without surety or sureties, conditioned for duly repairing and making good to the satisfaction of the Council any damage resulting from the hauling of such heavy traffic, and such bond shall be in a penalty to be fixed by the Council not exceeding two hundred pounds (£200).

No heavy traffic of any kind shall be hauled over any of the roads under the care, control, or management of the Council during the months of May, June, July, August, and September without the express consent of the Council first had and obtained in writing.

No person shall between the first day of May and the thirtieth day of September, both inclusive, in each year take or drive, or cause or suffer or permit to be taken, driven, or drawn, over any road, bridge, ferry, or ford under the care, control, or management of the Council—
(a.) Any four-wheeled vehicle the tires of which—
(1.) Are less than one inch and a half in width, with more than two horses or four bullocks;
(2.) Are less than two inches in width, with more than four horses or eight bullocks;
(3.) Are less than three inches in width, with more than five horses or ten bullocks;
(4.) Are less than four inches in width, with more than six horses or twelve bullocks:
(b.) Any two-wheeled vehicle the tires of which—
(1.) Are less than two inches in width, with more than two horses or four bullocks;
(2.) Are less than three inches in width, with more than three horses or six bullocks;
(3.) Are less than four inches in width, with more than four horses or eight bullocks;
(4.) Are less than five inches in width, with more than five horses or ten bullocks;
(5.) Are less than six inches in width, with more than six horses or twelve bullocks. -
Any person who commits a breach of any of these by-laws shall be liable to a penalty not exceeding in any case the sum of five pounds (£5).

These by-laws shall come into force on the first day of September, one thousand nine hundred and two, and shall apply to the whole of the Otamatea County.
These by-laws were made by the Otamatea County Council by resolution adopted at a special meeting of the said Council held on the twenty-second day of May, one thousand nine hundred and two.
