The Sandwich Islands declared to be infected with Bubonic Plague.

A PROCLAMATION.

IN pursuance of section one hundred and five of “The Public Health Act, 1900,” I, Uchter John Mark, Earl of Ranfurly, Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, do hereby proclaim and notify that the islands known as the Sandwich Islands, in the North Pacific Ocean, are infected with a disease called or known as “bubonic plague,” being a dangerous infectious disease within the meaning of the said Act.

Given under the hand of His Excellency the Right Honourable Uchter John Mark, Earl of Ranfurly; Knight Grand Cross of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George; Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over His Majesty’s Colony of New Zealand and its Dependencies; and issued under the Seal of the said Colony, at the Government House, at Wellington, this sixth day of January, in the year of our Lord one thousand nine hundred and two.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.

At the Government Buildings, at Wellington, this fourth day of December, 1901.

Present:
THE HONOURABLE W. C. WALKER PRESIDING IN COUNCIL.

WHEREAS the lands mentioned in the Schedule hereto are required to be taken for a public work, to wit, the purposes of a magazine reserve in Block XIII., Ohinemuri Survey District: And whereas the said lands are held or occupied by Native owners under a title which is not derived from the Crown: And whereas a map in duplicate has been prepared of the said lands by the Ohinemuri County Council, as required by the eighty-eighth section of “The Public Works Act, 1894”:

Now, therefore, in pursuance and exercise of the powers vested in him by the eighty-eighth section of the said Act, and of all other powers in anywise enabling him in this behalf, His Excellency the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said colony, doth hereby declare that the land shown upon such map, and described in the Schedule hereto, shall be deemed to be taken for the purpose of the said magazine reserve, and the said land shall vest in the County Council of Ohinemuri, as from the first day of February, one thousand nine hundred and two.

Leprosy, Bubonic Plague, and Small-pox declared to be Dangerous Infectious Diseases.

RANFURLY, Governor.

IN pursuance of section thirteen of “The Public Health Act, 1900,” I, Uchter John Mark, Earl of Ranfurly, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, do hereby declare that the diseases called or known as “leprosy,” “bubonic plague,” and “small-pox” are dangerous infectious diseases within the meaning of the said Act.

As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor, this sixth day of January, one thousand nine hundred and two.
