Inland Rate on Cable Telegrams: Rates for Cable Telegrams to Australia, Norfolk Island, and Fiji.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.

At the Government Buildings, at Wellington, this twenty-eighth day of April, 1902.

Present:

THE HONOURABLE SIR J. G. WARD PRESIDING IN COUNCIL.

WHEREAS under the authority of “The Electric Lines Act, 1884” (hereinafter termed “the said Act,”) the Governor in Council is empowered from time to time to make, alter, amend, and revoke regulations fixing and determining fees and rates to be demanded and received for the transmission of telegrams: And whereas by Order in Council dated the ninth day of July, one thousand nine hundred, and published in the New Zealand Gazette of the nineteenth day of July, one thousand nine hundred, the inland rate to be levied on cable telegrams was fixed at one penny per word, and it is desirable to alter the said inland rate, so far as it applies to telegrams to and from the Commonwealth of Australia, in the manner hereinafter set forth, and to fix and determine new fees for the despatch of cable telegrams to the Commonwealth of Australia and to Norfolk Island and Fiji:

Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities vested in him by the said Act, and acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said colony, doth hereby alter the inland rate on cable telegrams to and from the Commonwealth of Australia in the manner set forth in the Schedule hereto, and doth abolish the fees and rates heretofore levied and to be paid in respect of cable telegrams despatched to the Commonwealth of Australia and to Norfolk Island and Fiji; and in lieu thereof doth make the regulations and fix the fees and rates set forth in the Schedule hereto, and doth order and declare that such regulations, fees, and rates shall have effect on and after the first publication of this Order in Council in the New Zealand Gazette.

SCHEDULE.

The New Zealand terminal rate to be levied on cable telegrams to and from the Commonwealth of Australia shall be fixed at ½d. per word, and to and from Norfolk Island and Fiji at 1d. per word.

The following shall be the charges (inclusive of terminal rates) for cable telegrams from New Zealand to the places specified:—

Telegrams addressed to the Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia, or to Governors or Crown Ministers of the Australian States or of New Zealand, when sent by a Governor or Crown Minister, also Admiralty telegrams, pass free over New Zealand and Australian land-lines, and shall be charged as ordinary telegrams less 1½d. a word (representing a deduction of the New Zealand and Commonwealth terminal rates).
