Designs for Post and Letter Cards.

Post and Telegraph Department,
Wellington, 8th April, 1902.

A PRIZE of £10 is offered by the Postmaster-General for the best design for a post-card and a letter-card.
2. Each design is to include a representation of the King’s head and the words

“ New Zealand
Postage,
One Penny,”

near the right-hand upper corner of the address side of the card.
3. The lettering on the post-card is to be as follows:—

“ New Zealand
Post-card
(Carte Postale).

The address only to be written on this side.”
The Royal Arms should appear in any suitable place.
4. The lettering on the letter-card is to be as follows:—
(a.) On the address side:

“ New Zealand Letter-card.”

At bottom of card:

“ To open the Letter-card tear off the edge at the perforation.”

The Royal Arms should appear in any suitable place.
(b.) On the reverse side:

“ If used for transmission to countries outside the penny-post scheme the additional postage required should be supplied by means of adhesive stamps.”

  1. The designs must not exceed 5½ in. by 3½ in.
  2. Designers are at liberty to use a space of about 2 in. by 1½ in. in the left-hand bottom corner of the address side of the post-card for the representation of any scenic or other subject appropriate to the colony.
  3. The whole of the reverse side of the letter-card may be used for any scenic or other suitable design.
  4. The present form of post and letter cards may be seen at any post-office.
    All designs should be marked with a motto, and accompanied by a sealed envelope with the motto marked outside. The sealed envelope should contain the name and address of the designer.
    Designs must be in my hands before the 31st of May; otherwise they cannot be considered.
