Notice respecting Proposed Borough of Inglewood, County of Taranaki.

Colonial Secretary’s Office,
Wellington, 6th January, 1902.

PURSUANT to section 175 of “The Municipal Corporations Act, 1900,” His Excellency the Governor directs it to be notified that a petition has been presented to him praying for the constitution of the area described in the Schedule hereto as a borough under the said Act, to be named the Borough of Inglewood. All persons affected are hereby called upon to lodge any written objections to, or petitions against, the constitution of the said borough which they may desire to lodge within one month from the first publication of this notice. Such objections or petitions to be addressed to the Colonial Secretary, Wellington.

SCHEDULE.

BOUNDARIES OF PROPOSED BOROUGH.

ALL that area forming part of the Moa District, Block 4, Egmont Survey District, in the County of Taranaki, containing 703 acres, more or less, and bounded as follows: Starting at a point being the intersection of the south boundary of Section 100 to south-east corner of said Section 100; thence easterly by the same line produced, crossing a road, railway reserve, and the Mountain Road, to the western boundary of Section 179; thence southerly along the said western boundary to the south boundary of the said Section 179; thence easterly by the said southern boundary of Section 179 to the Wortley Road, thence easterly by the said line produced across the Wortley Road, thence along the said southern boundary of Section 179 to the western side of the Kurapete Stream, thence in a south-westerly direction along the west side of the Kurapete Stream to the intersection of the south boundary of Section 120 with the said western side of the Kurapete Stream, thence north-westerly along the south-western boundary of the said Section 120 to the Windsor Road, thence north-westerly by the said south-western boundary of Section 120 produced across the Windsor Road to the eastern boundary of Section 109, thence northerly by the said eastern boundary of Section 109 to the north-east corner of said Section 109, thence westerly along the north boundary of said Section 109 to the intersection of said boundary-line with the east side of the Wai-ongona Stream, thence in a north-easterly direction along the east side of the Waiongona Stream to the starting-point.

Merchant-seamen Deserters to Republic of Honduras.

SIR,—I have the honour to transmit to you, for publication in the colony under your government, copies of an Order of the King in Council* applying section 238 of “The Merchant Shipping Act, 1894,” as to merchant-seamen deserters, to the Republic of Honduras.

THE KING’S MOST EXCELLENT MAJESTY IN COUNCIL.

WHEREAS by subsection (1) of section 238 of “The Merchant Shipping Act, 1894,” it is provided that where it appears to His Majesty that due facilities are or will be given by the Government of any foreign country for recovering and apprehending seamen who desert from British merchant ships in that country, His Majesty may, by Order in Council stating that such facilities are or will be given, declare that that section shall apply in the case of such foreign country, subject to any limitations, conditions, and qualifications contained in the Order:

And whereas it has been made to appear to His Majesty that the Government of the Republic of Honduras gives and will give due facilities for recovering and apprehending seamen who desert from British merchant ships in that country:

Now, therefore, His Majesty, by virtue of the power vested in him by the hereinbefore-recited subsection (1) of section 238 of “The Merchant Shipping Act, 1894,” and by and with the advice of his Privy Council, is pleased to order and declare that the said section 238 of “The Merchant Shipping Act, 1894,” shall apply in the case of the Republic of Honduras:

And the Right Honourable Charles Thomson Ritchie, the Right Honourable Joseph Chamberlain, and the Right Honourable Lord George Hamilton, three of His Majesty’s Principal Secretaries of State, are to give the necessary directions herein accordingly.

BOMBAY APPROACH.—KUNDARI ISL. LT.-H.—On 1st Feb., 1902, the F. white lt. with red sector exh. from the gallery of this lt.-h. (18° 42′ N., 72° 48′ E.) is to be replaced by a temp. F. white lt. of the same R., but without the red sector over Chaul Kadu Reefs. Nov.

INDIAN OCEAN.

ALGUADA REEF LT.—Amended Notice.—On 1st Jan., 1902, this rev. white lt. is to be disc., and about 1st April, 1902, it is to be replaced by a new fl. white lt. every 10 secs.: fl. 10 secs.; ecl. 9 1/10 secs. During this period of alteration, a lt.-v., marked “Alguada Reef,” exh. a fl. white lt. showing a fl. of 5 secs. dura. every 45 secs., R. 12 miles, is to be moored in 11 fms., in approx. 15° 42′ N., 94° 11′ E., one mile S. 44° W. of the lt.-h. Nov.

KRISHNA LT.-V.—On 30th Nov., 1901, this lt.-v. (15° 37′ N., 95° 37′ E.) is to be temp. replaced by the lt.-v. “Martaban,” exh. a fl. white lt. every 45 secs.: lt. 5 secs.; ecl. 40 secs. Nov.

PACIFIC OCEAN.

New Hebrides.

TONGOA ISL.—LAIKA BANK.—The volcano, in approx. 16° 49 3/4′ S., 168° 32′ E., on Laika Bank, reported awash by H.M.S. “Tauranga” in 1897, was in July, 1901, an isl. about 50 ft. high. Nov.

Samoa Islands.

TUTUILA.—PANGO PANGO HARB.—Two F. red leading-lts., R. 3 miles, are est. on the nrn. shore of the harb.—the front lt., elev. 20 ft., exh. from an iron standard, in approx. 14° 18′ S., 170° 40′ W., immediately in front of the new Roman Catholic Church and about 10 yds. from h.-w. mark; the rear lt., elev. 75 ft., exh. from a similar standard, ½ cable N. 27° W. from the front lt. These lts. in line, N. 27° W., lead into the harb. A red lantern lt. is exh. from the end of the pier in front of the Customhouse. Oct.
