THE following notice, received from the Mayor of the Borough of the City of Wellington, is published in accordance with the provisions of “The Municipal Corporations Act, 1900.”

WELLINGTON CITY COUNCIL.
In the matter of “The Municipal Corporations Act, 1900.”
To the Honourable the Colonial Secretary.
SIR,—I have the honour to give you notice that at a poll of the electors (other than those enrolled upon a residential qualification) held in the City of Wellington on the 18th day of February, 1902, upon the proposal of the Council of the City of Wellington set out below, such proposal was duly carried, the votes recorded being—for the said proposal, 420; against the said proposal, 26.
The said proposal was as follows:—
In the matter of “The Municipal Corporations Act, 1900,” and of “The Tramways Act, 1894.”
The Council of the City of Wellington hereby gives public notice that such Council proposes to borrow (by way of special loan within the meaning of “The Municipal Corporations Act, 1900”) the sum of £330,000, to be expended upon the undermentioned works:—
(1.) Construction of electric tramways in the City of Wellington, with an extension of such tramways in the Borough of Melrose .. .. .. .. £225,000
(2.) Paving the streets along the present tramway-line in the City of Wellington with wooden blocks .. .. .. 55,000
(3.) Erection of Town Hall and Municipal Offices .. .. .. .. 50,000
£330,000
Each of the above sums being deemed appropriated to the work set opposite the same.
The Council proposes to pledge a special rate of 10d. in the pound on the rateable value (on the basis of the annual value) of all rateable property within the City of Wellington as security for the said loan of £330,000, and the interest and sinking fund thereon.
It is proposed that the whole amount of the loan shall be repayable at the expiration of a term of thirty years, computed from the 1st day of March, 1902.

I, John Guthrie Wood Aitken, Mayor of Wellington, do solemnly and sincerely declare that all proceedings required by law to be taken in or towards obtaining the sanction of the electors of the City of Wellington (other than those enrolled upon a residential qualification) to the proposal of the Council of the City of Wellington set out in a notice in writing of even date herein under my hand addressed to the Honourable the Colonial Secretary (which proposal relates to the raising of a special loan of £330,000 for the construction of electric tramways, paving of the streets along the present tramway-line, and the erection of a Town Hall and Municipal Offices) have been duly taken, and that the resolution in favour of the said proposal was duly carried.
And I make this solemn declaration conscientiously believing the same to be true, and by virtue of the provisions of an Act of the General Assembly of New Zealand intituled “The Justices of the Peace Act, 1882.”

EVERY officer holding advances of public money is hereby required to pay to the Public Account, at the nearest branch of the Bank of New Zealand, the unexpended balance in his hand on or before Thursday, the 27th March proximo, and forthwith to transmit to the Treasury at Wellington the bank receipt for such repayment, together with an account of his expenditure to the same date, as required by clause 4 of the Treasury Regulations.
As respects disbursements which officers may require to make immediately after the close of the financial year, requisitions for the amount required are to be made in such time as to enable them to reach Wellington not later than the 15th March, so that the requisite funds may be placed at the disposal of the officer on the 2nd April or as soon after as possible.

WHEREAS the local authorities respectively mentioned in the first column of the Schedule hereto have duly notified to me that the days upon which the shops in their respective districts shall be closed, pursuant to the provisions of “The Shops and Shop-assistants Act, 1894,” are the days set opposite their respective names in the second column of the said Schedule:
Now, therefore, in exercise of the powers in this behalf conferred upon me by the said Act, I, William Hall-Jones, acting for and on behalf of the Minister of Labour, do hereby appoint that the said respective days shall be the days upon which all shops in the said respective districts shall be closed.
