Examination for Dredgemasters’ Certificates.

Mines Department.
Wellington, 31st October, 1902.

AN examination of candidates for certificates as dredgemasters, under “The Mining Act Amendment Act, 1901,” will be held on Tuesday, the 3rd February, 1903, at Greymouth and Dunedin. All applications, with necessary certificates, and fee of £1, must be addressed to “The Secretary of the Board of Examiners under the Mining Act, Wellington,” and must be received before the 2nd January, 1903, or they will not be dealt with until the following examination. Forms of application may be obtained from Inspector of Mines, Westport and Dunedin.

The attention of dredgemasters is called to section 6 of “The Mining Act Amendment Act, 1902,” which extends the time for the issue of service certificates without examination.

Adoption of Child under Section 50 of “The Native Land Claims Adjustment and Laws Amendment Act, 1901.”

NOTICE is hereby given that the adoption, particulars of which are set out hereunder, has been duly registered by me under the provisions of section 50 of “The Native Land Claims Adjustment and Laws Amendment Act, 1901.”

WE, PENE PIRERE, of Rata, and MEREANA NGATAU, of Rata aforesaid, the wife of the said Pene Pirere, hereby give notice that we have taken Ripeka Utanga Potaka, a child of Utiku Potaka and Rora te Oiroa Potaka, to be our adopted child according to Maori custom; and we request that such adoption be registered under the provisions of section 50 of “The Native Land Claims Adjustment and Laws Amendment Act, 1901.”

As witness our hands, this 27th day of November, 1902.

Whereas the above-named James Davidson has given notice to me, under the provisions of section 8 of “The West Coast Settlement Reserves Act, 1892,” that he desires to obtain under that section a new lease of the land above described; and I consider his application ought to be given effect to: Now, therefore, I do hereby appoint a meeting to take place between the said James Davidson and all the Native owners of the above-described land for the purpose of fixing the rent to be paid for the said land for the first twenty-one years of the new lease; and I fix the Reserves Agent’s office, Hawera, as the place where, and Thursday, the 29th day of January, 1903, at 10 o’clock in the forenoon, as the time when, such meeting shall take place.

NOTICE is hereby given that the undermentioned Crown land will be open for selection on lease in perpetuity, at this office, on Tuesday, the 17th day of February, 1903, under the provisions of “The Land for Settlements Consolidation Act, 1900,” and amendments.

In the event of more than one application being received for the section on the same day, the order of selection shall be decided by ballot.

Four miles and a half from Poerua Railway-station, opposite schoolhouse and dairy-factory reserve. The improvements comprise 7 acres felled and badly burned, with a small portion sown in grass.
