Notice of the Laying-off of Roads through Lands in Awarua Block, Ohinewairua Survey District.
NOTICE is hereby given, by direction of His Excellency the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, under the authority of section 92 of “The Public Works Act, 1894,” that the roads described in the Schedule hereto were duly taken and laid off, in September, 1901, and January, 1902, respectively, through the lands specified in the said Schedule, under the authority of the Governor of the said colony, by Warrants dated the 27th March, 1895, and 31st October, 1901.

NOTICE is hereby given, by direction of His Excellency the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, under the authority of section 16 of “The Land Act, 1892,” that the road described in the Schedule hereto was duly taken and laid off, in January, 1902, through the land specified in the said Schedule, under the authority of the Governor of the said colony, by Warrant dated the 31st October, 1901.

Notifying Land in the Otago Land District subject to “The Land for Settlements Consolidation Act, 1900.”
Office of Board of Land Purchase Commissioners,
Wellington, 17th December, 1902.
PURSUANT to the provisions of “The Land for Settlements Consolidation Act, 1900,” I hereby notify that the undermentioned Crown land, being the land known as the Duncan Settlement, which has been acquired under the said Act, is subject to the said Act.
SCHEDULE.
DUNCAN SETTLEMENT.
All that area in the Otago Land District, containing 629 acres 3 roods 36 perches, more or less, being Section 9, Sections 2 of 10, 3 of 10, 2 and 3 of 11, and part of Section 12, Block I., Otakia Survey District; also Sections 1 of 14, 2 of 14, part 1 of 16, part 1 of 17, parts 1 and 2 of 18, and Sections 51 and 52, Block VIII., Dunedin and East Taieri Survey District: as the same is delineated on the plan marked S.G. 19275, deposited in the Head Office, Department of Lands and Survey, at Wellington, and thereon edged with red.

By-laws of the New Zealand Institute of Surveyors (made under the Provisions of “The New Zealand Institute of Surveyors and Board of Examiners Act, 1900”).
BY-LAWS.
Designation.
- THE association shall be called “The New Zealand Institute of Surveyors,” hereinafter styled “the Institute.”
Objects.
- The objects of the Institute shall be to secure uniformity of professional practice; to originate and to promote reform and improvement in surveys; to regulate the remuneration for surveyors’ services; to provide a competent authority to express the opinions of the profession as a whole upon the conduct of any of its members, and upon any matters touching their general interests or well-being; to afford the public requiring the assistance of surveyors guarantee of their competency; to provide opportunities for the discussion of professional questions; and to promote friendly relations amongst surveyors, both within and beyond the colony.
Constitution.

Members.—The Institute shall consist of persons who possess the qualifications required by section 9 of “The New Zealand Institute of Surveyors and Board of Examiners Act, 1900,” and are members of the Institute.

Management.—The affairs of the Institute shall be managed by a Council, consisting of President, two Vice-Presidents, Honorary Treasurer, and six members.

The seal of the Institute shall be kept in the charge of the Honorary Treasurer.
The Council may, in the name and on behalf of the Institute, enter into any contract and do or omit any act or thing which the Institute could do or omit, and not required to be actually done at a meeting of the Institute.
Any contract which, if made by private persons—
Firstly, must be by deed;
Secondly, must be in writing, signed by the parties thereto;
Thirdly, may be made verbally without writing.
When made by the Council—
In the first case, shall be in writing under the seal of the Institute, and signed by two members of the Council (of whom one shall be the President);
In the second case, shall be signed by two members of the Council (of whom the President shall be one), on behalf of of and by direction of the Council;
In the third case, may be made verbally without writing by the Council, or by any two members thereof, on behalf of of and by direction of the Council, but no verbal contract shall be made for any sum exceeding twenty pounds;
and all such contracts may, in like manner, be varied or discharged respectively.
Qualification and Privileges.

Members shall be persons possessing the qualifications prescribed by section 9 of “The New Zealand Institute of Surveyors and Board of Examiners Act, 1900,” and hereinafter referred to as “the said Act,” who have been engaged for not less than three years in conducting surveys in the field after obtaining their license.

Persons shall be eligible as associates should they hold a license to practice under “The New Zealand Institute of Surveyors and Board of Examiners Act, 1900,” or if they are graduates in engineering and surveying of any recognised university, and shall be styled associates of the Institute.

The following shall be eligible as honorary members: Gentlemen who, from their position, are able to be of assistance to the Institute in furthering its aims, or those who are eminent for science and experience in pursuits kindred to those of its members, but who are not engaged in regular practice as surveyors or civil engineers.
