NOTICE is hereby given that the undermentioned Crown
lands will be open for selection on lease in perpetuity,
at this office, on Wednesday, the 21st January, 1903, under
the provisions of “The Land for Settlements Consolidation
Act, 1900,” and amendments.

If more than one application be received for the same
section on the same day, priority of selection shall be de-
cided by ballot.

NOTICE is hereby given that the undermentioned Crown lands will be open for sale or selection, at this office, in terms of section 136 of “The Land Act, 1892,” either for cash, for occupation with right of purchase, or for lease in perpetuity, at the option of the selector, on and after Thursday, the 12th day of February, 1903.

If more than one application is received for the same section on the same day, priority of selection shall be decided by ballot.

This section is situated in the Dannevirke Centennial Block, on the Spur and Sugarloaf Roads. The access is from Rakaunui, which is about sixteen miles distant—viz., two miles by the Alfredton-Weber Road, and then for ten miles by horse-track, via the Huia, Waikereru, and Spur Roads, the last four miles being unformed. The section comprises hilly land, with homestead on the Makatote Stream. The soil is clayey, resting on papa formation. The forest is light, comprising matai, black-birch, rimu, rewarewa, tawa, and a few totara and a good deal of manuka scrub, with undergrowth of mixed character. The section is well watered by the Makatote Stream. The elevation ranges from about 800 ft. to about 1,400 ft. above sea-level.

Weighted with £177 4s. for improvements.

This allotment is situated on the east side of the Kaiwhata River, bounded on the north by the Te Maipi Native reserve and on the south by Messrs. Downes and Nitz’s leaseholds. The access is from Carterton (which is the nearest railway-station) via Gladstone, which is about thirty-nine miles distant, twenty miles of which is metalled, fifteen miles dray-road, and the remaining four miles by bed of river. The section comprises hilly land intersected by deep gullies; the soil is fair on frontage and poor on ridges and spurs; the section is overgrown with fern and hutiwai, and the grass has disappeared except on frontage. The soil is of clayey nature, poor to fair on frontage, resting on papa-and-sandstone formation; the forest is light, comprising kahikatea, rimu, matai, &c., and a little totara, with slight undergrowth of rangiora, supplejack, and fern. The section is well watered by the Kaiwhata Stream and two small creeks; the elevation ranges from about 600 ft. to 1,000 ft. above sea-level. The improvements consist of 150 acres in grass valued at 12s. 6d. per acre, 30 chains of netting fence at £1 2s. 6d. per chain, and 71 chains of fencing at 14s.: total, £177 4s.
