Rural Lands in the Taranaki Land District open for Sale or Selection.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the one-hundred-and-thirty-sixth section of “The Land Act, 1892,” I, Uchter John Mark, Earl of Ranfurly, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, having received the report of the Surveyor-General in this behalf, as in the said section is provided, do hereby declare that the rural lands enumerated in the Schedule hereto shall be open for sale or selection on and after the twenty-fifth day of February, one thousand nine hundred and three; and also that the lands mentioned in the said Schedule may, at the option of the applicant, be purchased for cash, or be selected for occupation with right of purchase or on lease in perpetuity, or, in respect of any land containing or supposed to contain any metal, mineral, or valuable stone, be selected on lease in perpetuity only; and I do hereby also fix the prices at which the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased, as mentioned in the said Schedule hereto, and do declare that the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased under and subject to the provisions of “The Land Act, 1892.”

Fair pastoral land; soil good, upon a papa formation, and well watered. Situate on Pukengahu Road, and access from Eltham by metalled road to within a mile of section, the remainder formed bridle-road. Distant from Eltham about ten miles.

Situate on Mokau Road; access from Waitara Railway-station, distant about thirty miles by dray-road, partly metalled. The section comprises small flats on streams; some good slopes, and broken spurs covered with birch, the other timber comprising rata, rimu, kahikatea, pukatea, and a thick undergrowth. The soil is good, resting upon papa formation, and well watered by permanent streams. Elevation from 120 ft. to 800 ft. above sea-level.

Situate on Mangaonga Road; access from Waitara Railway-station, distant about thirty-one to thirty-five miles by dray-road, and one mile and a half of bridle-road. The section is provided with a small frontage to the main road. The section comprises small flats on Mangaongaonga Stream, terraces, good slopes, and broken spurs covered with heavy mixed forest of rata, rimu, kahikatea, tawa, pukatea, and black-birch on spurs, with thick undergrowth. The soil is of good quality, upon papa formation, and is well watered. Elevation, 120 ft. to 900 ft. above sea-level.

Situate on Makarakia Road, about eighteen miles from Tongaporutu. Access by formed bridle-road and pack-track. Rough pastoral land; soil good, upon papa formation; well watered. About 69 acres felled and grassed, balance mixed forest of rimu, rata, tawa, &c.

Situate on Matau Road, about five miles from Purangi Village. Access by Junction Road, which is metalled to within a mile of Purangi, the remainder being a formed dray-road; the Matau is a dray-road for about a mile, the remainder a formed bridle-road. The land is rough pastoral; the soil fair, resting upon a formation of papa, and is well watered. The forest consists of rimu, rata, tawa, tawhero, with the usual undergrowth.

Situate on Tunipo Road, distant six miles and a half from Purangi Village; access from there by bridle-road. The land is rough pastoral, covered with a mixed forest of rimu, rata, tawa, &c., with usual undergrowth. The soil generally is good, resting on a papa formation, and well watered.

Situate on Carrington Road, distant about six miles and a half from Okato Township; access by Pitone and Dover Roads, the former being open partly as a dray-road and in parts as a bridle-road; the Dover Road is not such a passable road as the Pitone. The bush has been felled on the Carrington Road as far as the section. Fair pastoral land, volcanic formation; well watered, and wholly covered with mixed forest, comprising rata, rimu, tawhero, &c.
