The export of phormium in 1900 was 15,906 tons, value £332,182, while the output of the mills for that year is only 12,035 tons, valued at £201,235. Part of the export must have been manufactured, therefore, in earlier years. The average value at the mill is £16·7 per ton, and the export value £20·8 per ton.
