SPECIAL ORDER.

That a special order be now made adopting the provisions of “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1886,” within the Mataongaonga Road District, in terms of section 3 of the said Act.

I, Ernest Barns, Clerk to the Mataongaonga Road Board, do hereby certify that the above is a true copy of a special order made by the Mataongaonga Road Board on the 5th day of June, 1901, and that the same was duly passed in accordance with “The Road Boards Act, 1882.”

Result of Poll for Proposed Loan, Borough of Woodville.

THE following notice, received from the Mayor of the Borough of Woodville, is published in accordance with the provisions of “The Municipal Corporations Act, 1900.”

WOODVILLE BOROUGH COUNCIL.

To the Colonial Secretary, Wellington.

Sir,—I have the honour to inform you that a poll was taken this day, 22nd August, 1901, on the proposal to borrow the sum of £10,320 for the purpose of providing a high-pressure waterworks to supply water to that portion of the borough bounded on the north by Sowry Road, on the east by Pinfold Road, again on the north by Vogel Street, again on the east by Rural Section No. 70, on the south generally by the Mangaatua River, on the west by Rural Section No. 123, again on the north by Rural Section No. 120, and again on the west by Rural Sections Nos. 120 and 8, for a period of forty-one years, at 3½ per cent. per annum.

The number of votes recorded are as under, viz.: Votes for the proposal, 121; votes against the proposal, 20; informal, 2.

A majority of the district electors having voted in favour of the proposal, I declare the proposal carried.

Declaration.

I, William Gibb Crawford, Town Clerk of the Borough of Woodville, do solemnly and sincerely declare that all proceedings required by “The Municipal Corporations Act, 1900,” to be taken in or towards obtaining the sanction of the district electors to the proposal to borrow the sum of £10,320 to construct waterworks to supply water to a portion of the Borough of Woodville bounded on the north by Sowry Road, on the east by the Pinfold Road, and again on the north by Vogel Street, again on the east by Rural Section No. 70, on the south generally by the Mangaatua River, on the west by Rural Section No. 123, again on the north by Rural Section No. 120, and again on the west by Rural Sections Nos. 120 and 8, have been duly taken, and that the resolution in favour of the proposal was duly carried; and I make this solemn declaration conscientiously believing the same to be true, and in virtue of an Act of the General Assembly of New Zealand intituled “The Justices of the Peace Act, 1882.”

NEW GUINEA.—REEF OFF SOUTH END OF BAMPTON ISLAND REPORTED TO BE INCORRECTLY CHARTED.

Notice is hereby given that Mr. R. H. Harvey, master of the New Guinea Government steamer “Merrie England,” reports that he is of opinion that the reef off the south end of Bampton Island, south coast of New Guinea, extends about a mile and a half further south than shown on Admiralty Chart No. 2423. Masters of vessels cruising in the vicinity are therefore cautioned to give the end of the reef a wider berth.

SIGNAL FOR PILOT, KEPPEL BAY.

It is hereby notified that when telegraphic communication is interrupted between Cape Capricorn and the Pilot-station, Keppel Bay, a red light will be exhibited from Cape Capricorn.

A vessel requiring a pilot should on such occasions exhibit her signal for a pilot as soon as it would be visible from the Pilot-station.

VICTORIA.

Port of Port Phillip.—Swan Island Beacon.

REFERRING to Notice to Mariners No. 92, dated the 4th instant, pilots, masters, and others in charge of sailing-vessels are hereby informed that during the time the alteration to the Swan Island Beacon is being effected no temporary mark will be shown in lieu of the beacon, and they are advised when navigating the Heads off Point Lonsdale to keep the red beacon-lamp on the New Pier, Queenscliff, open of Shortlands Bluff, on a bearing N.E. ½ N., in order to clear Lonsdale Rock.

WEST COAST OF HINDUSTAN.

Quilon.—On 1st April, 1902, a group-fl. white lt., showing groups of 2 fls. every 10 secs., elev. 140 ft. above H.W., R. 18 miles, is to be exh. from a grey tower in 8° 53′ N., 76° 34′ E., on Tangacheri Pt., Quilon Road. Further notice will be given when information has been received that this lt. is exh. July.

MALACCA STRAIT, ETC.

Asahan River.—The F. white lt., exh. from a post on the N. side of the entr. to the river, is to be replaced by a more powerful F. white lt., R. 11 miles, exh. from a white frame iron Lt.-H. 42 ft. high, in 3° 1½′ N., 99° 51′ E. June.

Durian Strait.—A reef about 55 yds. in diam., carrying 2 fms., is reported to lie in approx. 0° 43′ N., 103° 40′ E., in the strait, with the S. pt. of S. Passage Isl. S. 88° W., 7 cables, and the S. pt. of Little Durian Isl. S. 53° E. July.

PACIFIC OCEAN.

KruseNstern Rk.—The s.s. “Eva” is reported to have passed breakers in approx. 21° 55′ N., 176° 5′ W., about 35 miles S.-wrd. of the assigned position of Krusenstern Rk. July.
