The remaining suburbs do not lie within borough boundaries, and particulars respecting them have not been obtained for the Vital Statistics.

Deaths occurring at hospitals, of persons not residents of the borough wherein the hospital is situated, have been allotted in each case to the borough where the disease was contracted, and not to that in which the death actually took place.

The total births in the above boroughs amounted to 402, against 406 in November—a decrease of 4. The deaths in December were 148—a decrease of 21 on the number in November. Of the total deaths, males contributed 69, females 79. Forty-two of the deaths were of children under five years of age, being 28·38 per cent. of the whole number; 38 of these were under one year of age.

There were thirty-six deaths of persons of 65 years and upwards: Seven men, 65, 67, 72, 75, 76, 78 (two), and three women, 66, 70, 76, died at Auckland; three men, 65, 77, 85, and one woman, 69, at Wellington; four men, 76, 79, 80, 83, and nine women, 66 (two), 70 (two), 73, 76, 78, 79, 91, at Christchurch; and three men, 65, 72, 88, and six women, 68, 72, 77, 78, 82, 88, at Dunedin.
