Amended Notice.—Visit of Their Royal Highnesses the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall and York.—Government Offices closed on certain Days.

Wellington, 30th May, 1901.

THE Government offices, with the exception of the post- and telegraph-offices, in the under-mentioned places will be closed on the dates mentioned below, during the visit of Their Royal Highnesses the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall and York; and, in respect to the Post and Telegraph Department, leave of absence will be granted to as many officers as possible, consistent with the demands on the department; and those officers who are on duty on the dates mentioned will be allowed leave of absence on days other than those specified, and in lieu thereof:—

Auckland Provincial District.

Tuesday and Wednesday, 11th and 12th June, 1901.

Taranaki, Hawke’s Bay, Wellington, Marlborough, Nelson, and Westland Provincial Districts.

Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday, 18th, 19th, and 21st June, 1901.

Canterbury Provincial District.

Saturday and Monday, 22nd and 24th June, 1901.

Otago Provincial District.

Wednesday and Thursday, 26th and 27th June, 1901.

Customs Holidays on the Occasion of the Visit of Their Royal Highnesses the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall and York.

HIS Excellency the Governor, by his Deputy, has been pleased to order that the Customhouses in the colony shall be closed as under during the visit of Their Royal Highnesses the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall and York, viz.:—

Auckland Provincial District.

Tuesday, 11th June, 1901.

Taranaki, Hawke’s Bay, Wellington, Marlborough, Nelson, and Westland Provincial Districts.

Tuesday, 18th June, 1901.

Canterbury Provincial District.

Saturday, 22nd June, 1901.

Otago Provincial District.

Wednesday, 26th June, 1901.

Rules and Regulations of the Printing and Stationery Department.

Printing and Stationery Department,
Wellington, 24th May, 1901.

THE following rules and regulations in connection with the Printing and Stationery Department have been approved.

ATTENDANCE.

  1. THE hours of attendance shall be from 8.30 a.m. to 5.30 p.m., with an interval of one hour for dinner; except on Saturdays, when the hours shall be from 8.30 a.m. to 1 p.m. continuously.

  2. If during the parliamentary session it be found necessary to organize a staff of night-hands, the hours of attendance for such staff shall be from 5.30 p.m. to 2 a.m., half an hour being allowed for supper; except on Saturdays, when the hours shall be from 1 to 5.30 p.m. An additional remuneration of 10s. per week shall be paid to members of the night staff.

  3. The hours of attendance for the clerical branch shall be the same as those observed in the Government Buildings.

  4. Punctual attendance must be strictly observed, and employés must continue at work until the signal is given to cease.

  5. Time-keepers of the several branches are required carefully to note in Time-books provided for the purpose late arrivals and absentees, and to report them to the Superintending Overseer every morning by 10 o’clock.

OVERTIME.

  1. If during the recess attendance should be required earlier in the morning or later at night than usual, time and a quarter off will be given; but whilst Parliament is in session such attendance will be paid for as overtime, according to the scale set forth in Schedule A hereto.

ABSENCE.

  1. Any employé who shall absent himself from the office during working-hours owing to any cause other than sickness must, not later than the following day, when feasible, report to his overseer, in writing or otherwise, the cause of his absence; and a record of the time lost shall be entered, for subsequent deduction from his salary, in the Time-book referred to in Rule 5.

Should the alleged cause of absence be deemed frivolous, or should any employé be frequently absent without sufficient cause, it will be the duty of the overseer to report the matter, through the Superintending Overseer, to the Government Printer, who may admonish or, in extreme cases, disrate the offender.

  1. If in any case absence be caused by sickness, and extend beyond two days, the employé must apply for sick-leave, and forward a medical certificate, at the earliest opportunity.

SICKNESS.

  1. In cases of sickness of members of the permanent staff, the Government Printer may, on receiving a certificate signed by a legally qualified medical practitioner, specifying the ailment, and declaring the inability of the person to discharge his duties, grant to such person during the continuance of such sickness (but not for a longer period than three months) sick-pay at the following rate: For the first month, full salary; after the first month, half-salary. Members of the temporary staff who have been permanently employed for three years shall enjoy the same privileges as permanent hands under this rule.

  2. In the event of prolonged sickness, the Government Printer may submit such special case for the consideration of the Minister having control of the department.

  3. Any person guilty of practising imposition under the plea of sickness shall be subject to instant dismissal, disrate ment in rank, or reduction in salary, as the Minister may determine.

HOLIDAYS.

  1. All public holidays will be granted to the employés by the Government Printer when any such holiday will not unduly interfere with the work in progress.

  2. Should the attendance of a portion of the staff be necessary on holidays, an equal amount of time
