Arrangements for First Elections, &c., Eltham Land-drainage District.

CHARLES ARTHUR BUDGE

to be Returning Officer for the purpose of conducting the first election of five members of the Eltham Land-drainage District, as constituted under “The Land Drainage Act, 1893”; also to appoint Saturday, the 25th day of May, 1901, to be the date and the Rawhitiroa Schoolhouse to be the place for holding such election; also to appoint Wednesday, the 29th day of May, 1901, at 7 o’clock p.m., to be the time and the Rawhitiroa Schoolhouse to be the place at which the first meeting of Trustees shall be held.

PAHIATUA COUNTY.

Proposed Loan No. 59.—Lower Scarborough Road.

THE following is the result of a poll taken on 4th April, 1901, on a proposal to borrow £300, under “The Government Loans to Local Bodies Act, 1886,” and its amendments, to metal a portion of the Lower Scarborough Road (from Mr. McFarlane’s bridge site to join the present metalled road at Mr. G. Hirst’s):—

Number of ratepayers on special roll, 9, representing 12 votes: Voted in favour, 5, representing 7 votes; number of ratepayers who did not record their votes, 4, representing 5 votes.

There being a majority of voters and votes in favour, I declare the proposal carried.

Proposed Loan No. 60.—Ballance North Road.

The following is the result of a poll taken on 2nd April, 1901, on a proposal to borrow £150 to metal the Ballance North Road (Road 36A) from Brotherston’s corner to the School Reserve, about 35 chains:—

Number of ratepayers on special roll, 6, representing 6 votes: Number of votes recorded in favour of the proposal, 4; votes not recorded, 2.

There being a majority of voters and votes in favour, I declare the proposal carried.

Notice to Mariners No. 25 of 1901.

SHOALS OFF KAIPARA HARBOUR.

Marine Department,
Wellington, N.Z., 29th April, 1901.

NOTICE is hereby given that Tory Shoal is again extending in a south-westerly direction; the lower red buoy has been shifted about three-quarters of a mile to westward, and is now in line with leading-beacons (N.N.E. ¼ E.), and 9 cables S.11° E. of South Sandspit; 3½ fathoms low-water springs extends for a short distance channel side of buoy. The North Spit outer extension has also been gradually increasing, and trending in a southerly direction, abreast of which in line of beacons there is now only 4½ fathoms, where formerly there was 6 fathoms and over; the smoothest and deepest water there is now to eastward of line of beacons. Mariners are advised to keep eastward of line of beacons when crossing bar, and to cross the line to westward when half-way in to the outer buoy, keeping well to westward of line of beacons when in vicinity of buoys. As a further extension of these shoals may occur, a constant watchfulness and use of the lead is necessary. Any direction shown from semaphore or flagstaff on top of sandhill at back of lighthouse should be promptly complied with.
