way of amendment of by-laws passed by the said Road Board on the 25th day of August, 1898, and the 14th day of August, 1899, and published in the New Zealand Gazette on the 7th day of September, 1899: Resolved,--

  1. That “the prescribed area” mentioned in sections 4, 5, and 10 of the said by-laws of the Otahuhu Road Board, which are published in the New Zealand Gazette of the 7th September, 1899, mean and include the whole of the above-mentioned Otahuhu Road District, and wherever the words “prescribed area” are used or occur in the said by-laws such words shall mean and include the whole of the said road district: Provided, however, that all occupiers of dwellings in the said district having an area of not less than 5 acres attached to any such dwelling, and occupied and used therewith, may be exempted from the operation of sections 4 and 10 of the said by-laws, if the said Road Board and its Inspector of Nuisances shall in their absolute discretion consider any such exemption may be made with safety to the public health, and shall grant a certificate in writing accordingly under the hand of the Clerk of the said Board to any such occupier. This provision shall be made and construed as part of the said by-laws.

  2. Any part of the said by-laws which may be inconsistent with anything herein contained and enacted is hereby expressly repealed.

Passed by the Road Board of the said Otahuhu Road District by special order on the 10th day of October, 1900.

The common seal of the said body corporate was hereto affixed by special order.

SPECIAL ORDER.

That the Board does hereby declare, under section 4 of “The Noxious Weeds Act, 1900,” that gorse (Ulex europæus) and ragwort or ragweed (Senecio jacobæus), being plants mentioned in the Second Schedule of the said Act, are noxious weeds in the Waiwakaiho Road District, within the Board’s jurisdiction.

I hereby certify that the above special order was duly made and passed by the Waiwakaiho Road Board, on the 8th day of February, 1901, in accordance with “The Road Boards Act, 1882.”

SPECIAL ORDER.

That this Board now make a special rate of ½d. in the pound on the rateable value of the following properties—Manawatu-Kukutauaki, Sections 4A, 5A, 6A, 7A, 8A, 9A, 10A; Heatherlea Reserve, Block XIII., Sections 13 to 20, 19A, 20A, Heatherlea; Sections 7, 8, 9, Block XIV., Mount Robinson Survey District; Sections 5, 6, Block II., Waiopehu Survey District; part A No. 3, Horowhenua Block (being 250 acres of that half of Section A which fronts the Arapaeapae Road); all inclusive; the above-mentioned sections constituting the Heatherlea East Special Rating Dis-

trict—to provide for interest and other annual charges on a loan of £600 to be raised under the Government Loans to Local Bodies Acts for the purpose of acquiring land, fencing, and constructing Heatherlea East Road; such rate to be an annually recurring rate for forty-one years, to become due and payable in one instalment on the 1st day of June in each and every succeeding year.

I hereby certify that the foregoing special order by the Wirokino Road Board was duly adopted at an ordinary meeting held the 19th day of January, 1901, and confirmed at a special meeting on the 18th day of February, 1901, and in accordance with the provisions of “The Road Boards Act, 1882.”

Notice as to Day for closing under “The Shops and Shop-assistants Act, 1894.”

NOTICE is hereby given that, in exercise of the powers conferred upon me by “The Shops and Shop-assistants Act, 1894,” and of all other powers and authorities me hereto enabling, and in terms of notice in writing duly received by me from the Chairman of the Conference of Delegates of all the local authorities comprised in the district constituted for the purposes of that Act by the Borough of Ashburton and the Town Districts of Hamstead and Tinwald (being all the boroughs or town districts any part of any one of which is situate within a mile of any part of another), I, Richard John Seddon, Minister of Labour, hereby appoint Thursday to be the day on which all shops in the said district shall be closed as provided by that Act. Dated this 4th day of March, 1901.

Notice to Imprestees under “The Public Revenues Act, 1891.”

The Treasury,
Wellington, 27th February, 1901.

EVERY officer holding advances of public money is hereby required to pay to the Public Account, at the nearest branch of the Bank of New Zealand, the unexpended balance in his hand on or before Saturday, the 30th March proximo, and forthwith to transmit to the Treasury at Wellington the bank-receipt for such repayment, together with an account of his expenditure to the same date, as required by clause 4 of the Treasury Regulations.

As respects disbursements which officers may require to make immediately after the close of the financial year, requisitions for the amount required are to be made in such time as to enable them to reach Wellington not later than the 16th March, so that the requisite funds may be placed at the disposal of the officer on the 1st April or as soon after as possible.

“THE ANIMALS PROTECTION ACTS AMENDMENT ACT, 1900.”—CLOSE SEASON FOR CERTAIN NATIVE GAME.

Clause 4. (1.) Every third year, commencing on the first day of April, one thousand nine hundred and one, shall be a close season in which the native pigeon, pukeko, and kaka shall not be shot, taken, or killed. . . .
