THE NEW ZEALAND GAZETTE.

(a.) The translation into the Maori language of any deed, instrument, or other document required to be made under the provisions of any statute, or any regulation made under any statute.
(b.) The translation of any will.
(c.) The translation or interpretation of any evidence or proceedings in the Native Land Court or any other Court.
Provided that, in proceedings in the Magistrate’s Court, or before Justices or Coroners, if the presiding Magistrate, Justice, or Coroner shall be satisfied that the services of an interpreter of the first grade cannot conveniently be obtained, then and in such case an interpreter of the second grade may act as interpreter in such proceedings.
Provided also that, when any deed, instrument, or other document which by law is required to have indorsed upon it a statement in the Maori language correctly setting forth its effect, shall have had such statement indorsed upon it by a licensed interpreter of the first grade, then an interpreter of either grade may thereafter read over and explain such statement to any Native, and may attest the signature of such Native to such deed, instrument, or document.
- Any licensed interpreter subscribing or authenticating in his official capacity any deed or other instrument or document shall add after his signature the words “Licensed Interpreter, first grade,” or “second grade,” as the case may be.
