NOTICE is hereby given that the Marine Department has, in pursuance of the provisions of clause 3 of the General Harbour Regulations of the 5th June, 1883, authorised the use of the following signals at ports where there is no flagstaff from which the ball signals provided for in that clause can be shown :-
Take the bar—Flag B of International Code.
Wait for tide—Flag P of International Code.
Bar dangerous—Flag S of International Code.

Sunken Wrecks.
ALGOA BAY.—On 17th May the barque “Lebu,” timber-laden, in approx. 34° 0¼′ S., 25° 42¾′ E., Nrd. of Cape Recife, in the fairway to Port Elizabeth, with Cape Recife Lt.-H., S. 50° W., 14 cables, and the lower beacon marking the Roman Rk., N. 32° W. Aug.
SAMOA ISLANDS.
UPOLU ISL. — APIA HARB. — The 2 F. red leading Lts. (front Lt. in 13° 50′ S., 171° 44′ W.) are reported to be unreliable. Nov.

MOORING-BUOY IN MILFORD SOUND.

Wellington, 31st January, 1900.
CAPTAIN RICHARDSON, of the s.s. “Waikare,” reports that while lying at the mooring-buoy in Milford Sound, on the 21st instant, during strong N.W. winds, the buoy dragged nearer to the shore, and is now floating lighter than usual. Mariners should therefore be cautious about using the buoy until the moorings have been examined and overhauled, which will be done by the s.s. “Hinemoa” in a few weeks’ time.

Notice to Mariners, No. 6 of 1900.
ROCK NEAR ANCHORAGE IN CASCADE COVE, DUSKY SOUND.

Wellington, N.Z., 30th January, 1900.
CAPTAIN RICHARDSON, of the s.s. “Waikare,” reports the discovery, in Cascade Cove, Dusky Sound, of a rock with only 12 ft. of water over it at low water, on the western side of the cove, near the anchorage. The following marks were observed when over the rock: Long Island Peak just touching the west point of Cascade Cove bearing N.E. northerly, and the south point of the small bay near the head of the cove bearing west (both bearings magnetic). The rock is just where the 15 fathoms is marked on the chart. Captain Richardson has placed a black can buoy over the spot.

Notice as to Day for closing under “The Shops and Shop-assistants Act, 1894.”
NOTICE is hereby given that, in exercise of the powers conferred upon me by “The Shops and Shop-assistants Act, 1894,” and of all other powers and authorities me hereto enabling, and in terms of notice in writing duly received by me from the chairman of the conference of delegates of all the local authorities comprised in the district constituted for the purposes of that Act by the Boroughs of the City of Wellington, Melrose, Karori, and Onslow, and the Town District of Johnsonville (being all the boroughs or town districts any part of any one of which is situate within a mile of any part of another), I, Richard John Seddon, Minister of Labour, hereby appoint Wednesday to be the day on which all shops in the said district shall be closed as provided by that Act.

WHEREAS the local authorities respectively mentioned in the first column of the Schedule hereto have duly notified to me that the days upon which the shops in their respective districts shall be closed, pursuant to the provisions of “The Shops and Shop-assistants Act, 1894,” are the days set opposite their respective names in the second column of the said Schedule :
Now, therefore, in exercise of the powers in this behalf conferred upon me by the said Act, I, Richard John Seddon, Minister of Labour, do hereby appoint that the said respective days shall be the days upon which all shops within the said respective districts shall be closed.
