Rural Lands in the Hawke's Bay Land District open for Sale or Selection.

RANFURLY, Governor.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the one-hundred-and-thirty-sixth section of “The Land Act, 1892,” I, Uchter John Mark, Earl of Ranfurly, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, having received the report of the Surveyor-General in this behalf, as in the said section is provided, do hereby declare that the rural lands enumerated in the Schedule hereto shall be open for sale or selection on and after the eleventh day of October, one thousand nine hundred; and also that the lands mentioned in the said Schedule may, at the option of the applicant, be purchased for cash, or be selected for occupation with right of purchase or on lease in perpetuity, or, in respect of any land containing or supposed to contain any metal, mineral, or valuable stone, be selected on lease in perpetuity only; and I do hereby also fix the prices at which the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased, as mentioned in the said Schedule hereto, and do declare that the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased under and subject to the provisions of “The Land Act, 1892.”

SCHEDULE.

HAWKE’S BAY LAND DISTRICT.

First-class Land.

These sections are rich flat land covered with grass and toitoi. Distance from Wairoa, about 20 miles.

Sections 1 and 2, Block III., Nuhaka: Mostly bush-clad hilly land, timber consisting principally of rimu, matai, tawa, &c.; good clay soil, Section 1 having about 82 acres and Section 2 about 68 acres of open grass and fern country. Section 2 is burdened with £30 for improvements. Distance from Wairoa, 17½ to 22½ miles.

Sections 1, 2, 4, and 5, Block VII., Nuhaka: Sections 1 and 2, mostly hilly land, with good clay soil, well watered. Section 1 has about 10 acres of light bush and 60 acres of rich flat land in grass. Section 2 is partly in grass, but mostly in manuka scrub. Both these sections are fenced on their road-boundaries, and have excellent homestead-sites. Sections 4 and 5, all flat land, about 65 acres on Section 4 and 55 acres on Section 5 being old cultivations and rich soil, carrying sheep; the balance is covered with sand. Both sections are fenced on their road-boundaries. Distance from Wairoa, 17½ to 17½ miles.

Sections 1, 2, and 3, Block VIII.: Mostly hilly land, Section 1 having about 30 acres and Section 2 about 20 acres of rich flat land in grass; Section 3 partially grassed, with about 10 acres of bush, all three having excellent homestead-sites. Section 2 is fenced on its north-eastern boundary, Section 3 on its south-west, south-east, and part of its north-west boundaries. Distance from Wairoa, 20 to 21 miles.

Section 1, Block VII., will be burdened with £182 18s. 8d.; Section 2, Block VII., with £40; Section 2, Block VIII., with £10; and Section 3, Block VIII., with £96 10s., for improvements.

Section 2, Block XVIII., Nuhaka North: Open land, with about 60 acres of mixed bush—tawa, rimu, kahikatea, &c.—and about 100 acres of rich flat land. The balance of the open land is on a high level covered with fern; soil rather light. Distance from Wairoa, 26¾ miles.

Section 2, Block XVII., Nuhaka North: Hilly country, with about 40 acres of rich, flat, rather swampy land in centre. About 30 acres of mixed bush—tawa, rimu, kahikatea, &c.—balance open fern country; soil good; well watered. Distance from Wairoa, 27¼ miles.

Second-class Land.

Section 1, Block II., Nuhaka, and Section 1, Block XVII., Nuhaka North: Hilly country; soil good, with fern. On the sections there is about 270 acres of mixed bush—tawa, rimu, matai, &c.—balance is open fern country; soil good; well watered; and distance from Wairoa about 26¾ miles.

Sections 1 and 2, Block XIII., Nuhaka North: Hilly fern land, soil light to good. On Section 1 there is about 60 acres and on Section 2 about 100 acres of mixed-bush land—tawa, rimu, matai, &c.; good homestead-sites; well watered. Distance from Wairoa, about 29¼ miles.

Section 3, Block XVII., Nuhaka North: Hilly land, with about 80 acres of mixed bush—tawa, kahikatea, &c.—balance open fern land, with about 60 acres of rich swamp; soil light to good. Distance from Wairoa, about 28 miles.
