PAEROA–WAIHI RAILWAY.
Commencing at a point marked 19 miles 6363·8 links on the line of the Waikato–Thames Railway, described in a Proclamation dated the 2nd day of May, 1892, and published in the New Zealand Gazette No. 40, of the 19th day of May, 1892; proceeding thence generally in a south-easterly direction for a distance of about 2 miles 70 chains, and passing in, into, through, or over the following lands—viz., Te Hape Block No. 3ᵇ (5858ᵇ in red), Rawhitiroa Block No. 2 (5370 in red), Te Hape Block No. 3ᶜ (5858ᶜ in red), Papaturoa Block (6247 in red), Papaturoa Block No. 8 (6247 in red), Murao-teahi Block No. 2 (4454 in red), Koromatua Block No. 3ᵃ (3802ᵇ in red), Muraoteahi Block (3768 in red), Te Tawa Block (1944 in red), all in Block XVI., Waihou Survey District; Te Tawa Block (1944 in red), Pareroiroi Block (1994 in red), Te Manuka Block No. 3 (3803ᵇ in red), Otamaurunganui Blocks (4002ᵃ and 4002ᶜ in red), Te Koronae Block (4957 in red), Ngahutoitoi Block No. 1ⁿ (6447 in red), Te Koronae Block No. 1ᵃ (4957, 1ᵃ, in red), Ngahutoitoi Block D (6447ᵈ in red), Ngahutoitoi Block E (6447ᵉ in red), Ngahutoitoi Block J (6447ʲ in red), Huru-o-te-Matuku Block (6565 in red), Tapuariki Block (6566 in red), Native land, and Te Rewarewa Block No. 2 (3748ᵃ in red), all in Block XIII., Ohinemuri Survey District—and terminating at a point in the said Te Rewarewa Block No. 2 (3748ᵃ in red), which point is also the commencement of a portion of the said Paeroa–Waihi Railway, as described in a Proclamation dated the 14th day of April, 1900, and published in the New Zealand Gazette No. 31, of the 19th day of April, 1900: including all adjoining and intervening holdings, residences, sites, places, roads, streets, tracks, rivers, streams, and watercourses: all in the Land District of Auckland: in the manner delineated on the plan marked P.W.D. 18976, deposited in the office of the Minister for Public Works, at Wellington.
Given under the hand of His Excellency the Right Honourable Uchter John Mark, Earl of Ranfurly; Knight Commander of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George; Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over Her Majesty’s Colony of New Zealand and its Dependencies; and issued under the Seal of the said Colony, at the Government House, at Wellington, this nineteenth day of July, in the year of our Lord one thousand nine hundred.

Vesting Control of White’s Bridge, over the Waimakariri River, in the Selwyn County Council, and apportioning the Cost of Maintenance.

A PROCLAMATION.
WHEREAS, by a Warrant issued by the Minister for Public Works on the tenth day of May, one thousand eight hundred and eighty-seven, under the powers conferred by the eleventh section of “The Public Works Act 1882 Amendment Act, 1884,” the bridge across the Waimakariri River therein mentioned was placed under the control of the Selwyn County, and the cost of maintaining and repairing the said bridge was thereby apportioned amongst the local bodies named in the said Warrant, in the manner therein set forth: And whereas by section one hundred and fourteen of “The Public Works Act, 1894” (hereinafter termed “the said Act”), it is, inter alia, enacted that the Governor may, by Proclamation publicly notified, direct that any bridge already constructed, or which may hereafter be constructed, over or across any river or arm of the sea shall, from and after a date to be fixed by such Proclamation, be under the exclusive care, control, and management of such local authority as shall be mentioned in that behalf in such Proclamation; and may by any such Proclamation as aforesaid fix and determine whether all or any, and, if so, what part, of the cost, whether theretofore incurred or thereafter to be incurred, of maintaining, repairing, improving, or reconstructing any such bridge is to be provided and paid by any local authority or authorities, and, if so, by what local authority or authorities; and may by any such Proclamation as aforesaid direct how, and when, and to whom any such payment is to be made:
And whereas by the said Act it is further provided that any Proclamation or instrument heretofore issued or made under any Act hereby repealed, vesting the control of any bridge and apportioning the cost of maintenance thereof, may be revoked, altered, or varied by the Governor from time to time, as he may deem expedient:
And whereas it is expedient to make provision under the said Act for the purposes and in the manner hereinafter set forth:
Now, therefore, I, Uchter John Mark, Earl of Ranfurly, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the power and authority vested in me by the said Act, and of all other powers and authorities in anywise enabling me in this behalf, do hereby proclaim and direct as follows, that is to say,—

That the bridge, with its approaches and protective works, described in the Schedule hereto shall from and after the date of this Proclamation be under the exclusive care, control, and management of the Selwyn County Council; and for the purposes of this Proclamation I do hereby define the said bridge to include such approaches and protective works.

I fix and determine that the future cost of maintaining, repairing, improving, or reconstructing the said bridge, with its approaches and protective works, shall be provided and paid from time to time by the under-mentioned local authorities in the proportions set opposite the name of each authority, that is to say,—
The Selwyn County Council, in the proportion of thirty-three per cent. of such cost;
The Eyreton Road Board, in the proportion of twenty-one per cent. of such cost;
The Mandeville and Rangiora Road Board, in the proportion of thirteen per cent. of such cost;
The Ashley Road Board, in the proportion of seven per cent. of such cost;
The Kowai Road Board, in the proportion of seven per cent. of such cost;
The Oxford Road Board, in the proportion of six per cent. of such cost;
The Waipara Road Board, in the proportion of five per cent. of such cost;
The West Eyreton Road Board, in the proportion of four per cent. of such cost;
The Cust Road Board, in the proportion of three per cent. of such cost; and
The Amberley Town Board, in the proportion of one per cent. of such cost.

I direct that any payment hereby required to be made as aforesaid by the several local authorities hereinbefore mentioned shall be paid from time to time, in the proportions hereinbefore fixed and determined, out of the funds under the control of the said Road Boards and Town Board respectively, in each case within a period of thirty days after demand in writing made by or on behalf of the Selwyn County Council; and all such payments shall be made from time to time to the Clerk of the said Council for and on account of such Council.

I hereby revoke the hereinbefore-recited Warrant of the tenth day of May, one thousand eight hundred and eighty-seven, so far as the same is inconsistent with or repugnant to this Proclamation; but such revocation shall not be deemed to affect any rights, claims, or liabilities of or against any local body mentioned in the said Warrant, and which may be in existence thereunder before this Proclamation takes effect.
SCHEDULE.
The bridge known as White’s Bridge, over the Waimakariri River, on the continuation easterly of Bridge Road, passing between Sections Nos. 412 and 467, in Block III., Christchurch Survey District, together with both the approaches to the said bridge, marked A and B on plan, and the protective works in connection with the said bridge on the right bank of the said river within a radius of 10 chains south from the eastern end of the said bridge, and on the left bank within a radius of 35 chains south from the western end of the said bridge, as shown upon the plan marked S.G. 39655, deposited in the Head Office, Department of Lands and Survey, at Wellington, in the Wellington Land District.
