BOROUGH OF PORT CHALMERS.

To the Hon. the Colonial Secretary, Wellington.

Sir,—I have the honour, pursuant to section 184 of “The Municipal Corporations Act, 1886,” to give you notice that on the 24th day of April, 1900, at Port Chalmers, the proposal of the Port Chalmers Borough Council to raise by way of loan the sum of £5,000 for the purposes following—namely, (a) To improve and extend the waterworks and water-supply to the town and shipping of Port Chalmers; (b) to pay off the Corporation overdraft on Water-supply Account; (c) to pay off the general loan due 1st November, 1901; and (if possible) to refund to the General Account any moneys paid from that account to the Water-supply Account: as provided by “The Borough of Port Chalmers Borrowing Act, 1899”—was duly carried by vote of the ratepayers.

In the matter of “The Municipal Corporations Act, 1886.”

I, DAVID ALEXANDER DE MAUS, Mayor of the Town of Port Chalmers, do solemnly and sincerely declare,—

  1. That the proposal of the Port Chalmers Borough Council to raise £5,000 by way of loan for the above-mentioned purposes under the provisions of “The Borough of Port Chalmers Borrowing Act, 1899,” was submitted to a poll of the ratepayers taken at Port Chalmers on the 24th day of April, 1900.

  2. All the proceedings required by “The Municipal Corporations Act, 1886,” to be taken in or towards obtaining the sanction of the burgesses of the said Borough of Port Chalmers to the said proposal have been duly and properly taken and observed.

  3. The resolution in favour of the said proposal has been duly carried.

And I make this solemn declaration conscientiously believing the same to be true, and by virtue of “The Justices of the Peace Act, 1882.”

Special Order made by the Upper Wangaehu Road Board, County of Wanganui.

THE following special order, made by the Upper Wangaehu Road Board, is published in accordance with the provisions of “The Road Boards Act, 1882.”

Copy of Special Order making a Special Rate to provide Interest and Sinking Fund on a Loan of £700 for metalling from Kauangaroa to Mangamahu, &c.

That to meet the charges of interest and sinking fund on a loan of £700, to be borrowed under the provisions of “The Government Loans to Local Bodies Act, 1886,” “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1886,” and their amendments, a special rate of ½d. in the pound of the capital value of all rateable property included within the Upper Wangaehu Road District be now made, such rate to be an annually recurring rate, leviable if required on the 1st day of February, 1901, and on the same day of each year following until the loan in respect of which the said rate is made is paid off.

I hereby certify that the above special order was made in accordance with section 76 of “The Road Boards Act, 1882,” by the Upper Wangaehu Road Board, at a meeting held on Saturday, 3rd March, 1900, and duly confirmed at a special meeting of the said Board on Saturday, 7th April, 1900.

Arbor Day.

WEDNESDAY, the 18th day of July next, will be observed as a public holiday in the Government offices throughout New Zealand for the celebration of Arbor Day.

In order that the movement may be made as successful as possible, the Government hopes that the Mayors of the various municipalities, and Chairmen of local bodies, will place the matter prominently before the people of the colony, and do all they can to encourage the planting of public reserves and other available lands, both public and private, with trees suited to the locality.

Alterations to the Scale of Fares, Rates, and Charges in force upon the New Zealand Government Railways.

IN pursuance of all powers and authorities enabling me under “The Public Works Act, 1894,” and any amendment thereof, and also of “The Government Railways Act, 1894,” I, William Hall-Jones, acting for the Minister for Railways, do hereby make the following alterations in the scale of fares, rates, and charges in force on the New Zealand Government railways open for traffic, such alterations to come into force on and after the 28th day of May, 1900:—

PART I.—PASSENGERS: LOCAL FARES AND REGULATIONS.

WELLINGTON-NAPIER-NEW PLYMOUTH SECTION.

Cancel—

Workers’ Commutation Tickets.

Second-class twelve-trip tickets will be issued from Lower Hutt and Petone to Wellington and Te Aro.

These tickets will be available for use by the following trains only :—

7.9 a.m. train from Lower Hutt daily.

11.56 a.m., 1 p.m., 2.20 p.m., 5.12 p.m., and 6.5 p.m. trains from Te Aro daily.

They will be sold only to persons resident in the neighbourhood of the issuing station, and will be available only for use by the purchaser, whose name must be inscribed thereon.

They are available for a fortnight from date of issue.

Portions not used on or before the date on which the ticket expires, and portions punched or detached, are not available for use.

No reduction in charge is made for children.

The tickets are not transferable, and will not be recognised if presented by trains other than those specified.

They will be charged 2s. 6d. each.

These regulations are superseded by regulations for workers’ weekly two-shilling tickets published in Gazette of 10th May, 1900.
