Alteration of Pukahu River District, County of Hawke’s Bay.

A PROCLAMATION.
WHEREAS by “The River Boards Act, 1884,” it is, among other things, enacted that the Governor may, on petition signed by not less than two-thirds of the ratepayers of a river district, enlarge, alter, or diminish any such district; and also that, when any district is altered under the said enactment, the Governor shall, in the Proclamation making such alteration, make such redistribution of the members of the Board as he shall think fit:
And whereas a petition, signed as aforesaid, has been duly presented, praying that the Pukahu River District may be altered, and that the boundaries thereof may be those set forth in the Schedule hereto:
And whereas it appears expedient to grant the prayer of the said petition:
Now, therefore, I, Uchter John Mark, Earl of Ranfurly, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the above-recited power and authority, do hereby alter the boundaries of the Pukahu River District, and do hereby proclaim and declare that the boundaries of the said district shall be those set forth in the Schedule hereto; and also do hereby redistribute the members of the Pukahu River Board as constituted immediately before the date when this Proclamation comes into force, and declare that such members shall be the members of the Board for the said district as altered hereby, and that this Proclamation shall come into force on the first day of June, one thousand nine hundred.
SCHEDULE.
PUKAHU RIVER DISTRICT (EXTENDED).
All that area in the Hawke’s Bay Land District, containing by admeasurement 26,280 acres, more or less, bounded towards the north-east generally by a right line from a point on the right bank of the Ngaruroro River in line with the southern side of the Hastings-Omahu Road to the said southern side of that road at its junction with the Maraekakaho-Omahu Road, about 7100 links; thence by the said Hastings-Omahu Road to the north-eastern corner of Lot No. 2 of Subdivision B, Heretaunga Block; thence by a right line to the north-western boundary of the Borough of Hastings at the northernmost corner of Section No. 19, Mahora Settlement; thence by the Borough of Hastings to its most easterly corner; and thence by a right line to the north-eastern corner of Subdivision 59 of Lot No. 2, Subdivision E, Heretaunga Block: thence towards the south-east generally by the Old Ngaruroro River to a point opposite to the mouth of Danvers Creek; thence by a right line across the Old Ngaruroro River and by its southern bank to the north-western corner of Suburban Section No. 27, Township of Havelock; thence by the said Section No. 27 to its south-western corner; thence by a right line across a road to the westernmost corner of Section No. 14, Township of Havelock; thence by that section to Middle Road; thence by the said Middle Road to road-peg No. 36, at the junction of said Middle Road and a public road from Pakipaki: thence towards the south-west generally by the said public road to Pakipaki, crossing the Kao-kaoroa and Whenuakura Blocks, and by another public road to the Main South Road; thence by the Main South Road to a public road forming the boundary between the Kahumoko and Pekapeka No. 2A Blocks; thence by that road to the south-eastern corner of Pekapeka No. 1 Block; thence by the said Pekapeka No. 1 Block to its most northerly corner; thence by the northern base of the hills forming part of the Mangaroa Block to a point marked “A” on plan hereinafter referred to; thence by a right line across the Mangaroa Swamp to the north-eastern corner of portion of Ngatarawa Nos. 4 and 5 and Mangaroa Lot No. 1 Blocks; thence by the said portion of Ngatarawa Nos. 4 and 5 and Mangaroa Lot No. 1 Blocks and by Ngatarawa No. 4 Block to the Rau-kawa-Hastings Road; thence by that road to the north-
western boundary-line of Lot 3, Mangaroa Block; thence by the said Lot 3 to its westernmost corner; thence by a right line to the south-western corner of Lot 1 of Ngatarawa No. 4 Block; thence by the Hampden-Hastings Road to the south-eastern corner of Ngatarawa No. 2c Block; thence by that block and Ngatarawa No. 2b Block to land taken for railway purposes; thence by the eastern and southern boundaries of land taken for railway purposes from Ngatarawa No. 2b Block, and by land taken for railway purposes from Ngatarawa 2e No. 2 Block, to the Ngaruroro River: thence towards the north-west generally by the Ngaruroro River to the north-eastern boundary of land taken for railway purposes from Ngatarawa No. 1a Block; thence by the said north-eastern boundary to the easternmost corner of the said land taken for railway purposes from Ngatarawa No. 1a Block; thence by a right line to a point on the southern boundary of Ngatarawa No. 1a Block distant 1900 links from the Maraekakaho-Omahu Road; thence by the said southern boundary of Ngatarawa No. 1a Block to the Maraekakaho-Omahu Road, and by that road to the easternmost corner of Ngatarawa No. 1 Block; thence by the said Ngatarawa No. 1 Block to land taken for railway purposes; thence by the eastern and southern boundaries of land taken for railway purposes from Ngatarawa No. 1 Block to the Ngaruroro River; and thence by the Ngaruroro River to the place of commencement: as the same is delineated on the plan marked S.G. 26498A, deposited at the Head Office, Department of Lands and Survey, at Wellington.

Post Office Regulations.—“Special Request” Letters.

At the Government Buildings, at Wellington, this first day of May, 1900.

WHEREAS by Order in Council dated the twenty-eighth day of February, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-nine, made under the authority of “The Post Office Act, 1881” (hereinafter termed “the said Act”), and published in the New Zealand Gazette of the third day of March, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-nine, rules and regulations were prescribed for the receiving, despatching, conveying, and delivering of letters, including “special request” letters, such last-named letters being defined as letters posted within the colony in terms of the regulations contained in the said Order in Council: And whereas it is expedient to extend the definition of such “special request” letters as hereinafter provided:
Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the power and authority conferred upon him by the said Act, and acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said colony, doth hereby revoke paragraph No. 1 under the heading “Special Request Letters” of the above-recited regulations, and in lieu thereof doth hereby make the regulation set forth in the Schedule hereto, and doth hereby declare that such substituted regulation shall be read as part of the regulations made by the hereinbefore-mentioned Order in Council, and doth further declare that this Order in Council and the regulation hereby made shall have effect on and after the first publication of this Order in Council in the New Zealand Gazette.
SCHEDULE.
“SPECIAL REQUEST” LETTERS.
- LETTERS and other postal packets posted in or beyond the colony, having the names and addresses of the senders written, printed, or embossed on the address side or on the fly of the envelopes, are returned unopened to the writers or senders by Chief Postmasters when not claimed within thirty days; and all such letters which have, in addition, a request on the address side of the cover that the letters be returned if not claimed within a stated period, are also returned unopened by Chief Postmasters. No such letters, however, will be returned unless they have remained in the post-office to which addressed at least ten days.
