Sergeant PATRICK BLACK

to be an Inspector of Weights and Measures, under “The Weights and Measures Act, 1868,” and the Acts amending the same, for the Counties of Hawke’s Bay, Patangata, and Wairoa, and for the Boroughs of Napier and Hastings, vice Sergeant Alfred James Mitchell.

Results of Polls for Proposed Loans, Stratford County.

THE following notices, received from the Chairman of the Stratford County Council, are published in accordance with the provisions of “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1886.”

STRATFORD COUNTY COUNCIL.

RESULT of a poll taken on the 26th day of March, 1900, upon the proposal to raise a loan of £300, under “The Government Loans to Local Bodies Act, 1886,” and the amendments thereof, for the formation and metalling of the Nash Road:—

Number of ratepayers on special roll, 4; number of votes exercisable, 4: Number of ratepayers voting in favour of the proposal, 3; number of votes recorded in favour of the proposal, 3; number of ratepayers voting against the proposal, nil.

The required majority having been obtained, I hereby declare the above proposal to be carried.

Result of a poll taken on the 5th day of April, 1900, upon the proposal to borrow £600, under “The Government Loans to Local Bodies Act, 1886,” and the amendments thereof, for forming and metalling a portion of the South Douglas Road:—

Number of ratepayers on special roll, 7; number of votes exercisable, 8: Number of ratepayers voting in favour of the proposal, 5; number of votes recorded in favour of the proposal, 6; number of ratepayers voting against the proposal, nil.

The required majority having been obtained, I hereby declare the above proposal to be carried.

Number of ratepayers on special roll, 10; number of votes exercisable, 10: Number of ratepayers voting in favour of the proposal, 6; number of votes recorded in favour of the proposal, 6; number of ratepayers voting against the proposal, nil.

The required majority having been obtained, I hereby declare the above proposal to be carried.

WAITOTARA COUNTY COUNCIL.

RESULT of a poll taken on Friday, 20th April, 1900, on a proposal to raise a loan of £1,500, under “The Government Loans to Local Bodies Act, 1886,” for the completion of the Wanganui-Castlecliff Road:—

Number of ratepayers on roll, 78; number of votes exercisable, 85: Number of votes in favour of the proposal, 36; against the proposal, 1.

A majority of 35 votes having been given in favour of the proposal, I therefore declare the proposal carried.

THE following Notice to Mariners, received from the Chief Harbourmaster, Fremantle, Western Australia, is published for general information.

WESTERN AUSTRALIA.—WEST COAST.

Preliminary Notice. — Light on Bathurst Point, Rottnest Island.

THE Government of Western Australia give notice that a light will shortly be exhibited from a lighthouse now in course of erection at Bathurst Point, the north-east extreme of Rottnest Island, in lat. 31° 59′ 15″ south, and long. 115° 33′ 15″ east.

The light, which is a fixed dioptric light of the second order, will be exhibited from a stone tower of a natural grey colour, and will have a height of focal plane above high water of 98 ft.

It will be visible from seaward over an arc of 200 degrees—i.e., between the bearings of E. ¾ S. through north to N.W. by W. ¼ W., and should be seen from the deck of a vessel 15 ft. above sea-level about fifteen nautical miles in clear weather.

Further particulars, together with the date of lighting, will be given in a future notice.
