New County of Opotiki divided into Ridings, &c.

A PROCLAMATION.

IN exercise and pursuance of the powers and authorities vested in me by “The Counties Act, 1886,” and “The Whakatane County Act, 1899,” I, Uchter John Mark, Earl of Ranfurly, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, do hereby divide the new County of Opotiki, as constituted by the said Acts and as described in the First Schedule hereto, into three ridings, to be called the Ohiwa Riding, the Opotiki Riding, and the Waioeka Riding, and declare that the boundaries thereof shall be those set forth under the names of the said ridings respectively in the Second Schedule hereto.

And I do hereby declare that one member shall be elected for the Ohiwa Riding, one member for the Opotiki Riding, and five members for the Waioeka Riding.

And I do further declare that Wednesday, the twenty-eighth day of March, one thousand nine hundred, shall be the day upon which the election of the first Council of the said County of Opotiki shall take place; and that Saturday, the thirty-first day of March, one thousand nine hundred, at two o’clock in the afternoon, shall be the time, and the County Council Offices, Church Street, Opotiki, shall be the place, at which the first meeting of the said Council shall be held.

FIRST SCHEDULE.
COUNTY OF OPOTIKI.

ALL that area in the Auckland Land District bounded towards the north generally by the sea from the Maraetotara Road to Cape Runaway; thence towards the east and south-east generally by the Waiapu and Cook Counties; and towards the west generally by the Opotiki County, as described in the Schedule to “The Whakatane County Act, 1899.”

SECOND SCHEDULE.
OHIWA RIDING.

BOUNDED towards the north generally by the sea; towards the east generally by a line along the middle of the Waiotahi River from the sea to its source; thence towards the south-east by a right line to the confluence of the Waimana River and the Wai-iti Stream; and thence towards the west generally by the Whakatane County, as described in the Schedule to “The Whakatane County Act, 1899”: including adjacent islands.

OPOTIKI RIDING.

The Opotiki Town District, as constituted in the New Zealand Gazette, No. 50, 25th May, 1882.

WAIOEKA RIDING.

Bounded towards the north and north-west generally by the sea; towards the east generally by Waiapu County; towards the south-east generally by Cook County; and towards the west generally by Whakatane County, as described in the Schedule to “The Whakatane County Act, 1899,” and by the Ohiwa Riding, hereinbefore described: excepting the Opotiki Riding, hereinbefore described, and including adjacent islands.

Given under the hand of His Excellency the Right Honourable Uchter John Mark, Earl of Ranfurly; Knight Commander of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George; Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over Her Majesty’s Colony of New Zealand and its Dependencies; and issued under the Seal of the said Colony, at the Government House, at Wellington, this twenty-third day of February, in the year of our Lord one thousand nine hundred.

A PROCLAMATION.

IN exercise and pursuance of the powers and authorities vested in me by “The River Boards Act, 1884,” I, Uchter John Mark, Earl of Ranfurly, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, do hereby proclaim and declare that, from and after the date hereof, that part of the said colony described in the Schedule hereto shall be and the same is hereby constituted a district under the said Act, and shall be known by the name of the Waipu River District; and that the number of the members who are to constitute the Board of the said district shall be five. And I do also proclaim and declare that Samuel McLeod, of Waipu, shall be the Returning Officer to conduct the first election of five members of the aforesaid Board; that Tuesday, the twenty-seventh day of March, one thousand nine hundred, shall be the day, and the Library Hall, Waipu, shall be the place, for holding such first elections; and that Tuesday, the third day of April, one thousand nine hundred, at half-past seven o’clock in the afternoon, shall be the time, and the said Library Hall, Waipu, shall be the place, at which the first meeting of the members of the Board of the said Waipu River District shall be held. And, lastly, I do proclaim and declare that the aforesaid Samuel McLeod shall be the person to make a roll of electors for the purposes of the aforesaid first elections, in the manner prescribed by section eight of the said “River Boards Act, 1884,”
