Section 3, Block XIII., Manganui, Wanganui County, is situated in the Marton No. 3 Block, on the Manganui-a-te-ao River. The access is from Raetihi, which is about twelve miles distant via the Makotuku Valley and Manganui-a-te-ao Roads, which are formed for dray traffic for about eight miles, the rest is surveyed road only. The section comprises hilly land, with 20 to 30 acres of flats, about one-third being covered with fern and scrub, and the remainder with mixed bush of the ordinary kind. The section is well watered.

Section 15, Block X., Makuri, Pahiatua County, is situated on the Ohinereiata Road, distant about five miles from Makuri Township, three miles of which is by a metalled road, and the remainder is a rough walking-track. The access is from Pahiatua via Makuri, which is about twenty-four miles distant, twenty-two miles of which is metalled road. The section comprises hilly land with fairly good soil, resting on sandstone formation. The forest uncleared is chiefly rimu, rata, birch, with the usual undergrowth of supplejack, rangiora, vines, &c. The section is well watered by a creek. The elevation ranges from about 1,000 ft. to 1,400 ft. above sea-level. The improvements comprise—40 acres felled and grassed, at £1 (now overgrown), £40; where, 10 ft. x 15 ft. x 7 ft., split (old and out of repair), £4: total, £44. Survey-fee, £30. There is a liability for £2 10s. due to the Pahiatua County for outstanding rates, and a special rate of 3·8d. for the construction of the Toritea Road.

Section 1, Block XI., and Section 4, Block XII., Mangawhero, Wanganui County, are situated in the Maungakaretu Block, on the Mangamahu Stream, and run from this stream to the watershed between it and the Turakina River. The access is from Mangamahu Township, which is about three miles distant via the Mangamahu Valley Road, which is formed for dray traffic to within a short distance of the section. The section comprises hilly land, the greater portion lying well to the sun. There is some nice undulating country in the eastern portion, and a fair homestead-site is to be found near the Mangamahu Stream. The soil is of good quality, resting on papa formation. The forest is medium heavy, comprising chiefly rimu, matai, rata, tawa, and a few maires and totaras, with a thick undergrowth of konini, horopito, karamu, supplejack, &c. The section is well watered by small streams. The elevation ranges from about 530 ft. to 1,420 ft. above sea-level. The improvements comprise—250 acres felled, at £1, £250; 250 acres grassed, at 12s. 6d., £156 5s.; fencing, 19 chains, at 17s., £16 3s.; track, £2: total, £424 8s.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the one-hundred-and-thirty-sixth section of “The Land Act, 1892,” I, Uchter John Mark, Earl of Ranfurly, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, having received the report of the Surveyor-General in this behalf, as in the said section is provided, do hereby declare that the rural lands enumerated in the Schedule hereto shall be open for sale or selection on and after the eighth day of January, one thousand nine hundred; and also that the lands mentioned in the said Schedule may, at the option of the applicant, be purchased for cash, or be selected for occupation with right of purchase or on lease in perpetuity, or, in respect of any land containing or supposed to contain any metal, mineral, or valuable stone, be selected on lease in perpetuity only; and I do hereby also fix the prices at which the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased, as mentioned in the said Schedule hereto, and do declare that the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased under and subject to the provisions of “The Land Act, 1892.”

Section 1, about 100 acres forest, balance open and burnt bush; undulating to broken; the portion fronting Wairoa River is of good quality. Section 2, about 200 acres forest, balance open and burnt bush; good land; near Wairoa River. Section 3, about 350 acres forest, balance open land and burnt bush; land good; on Wairoa and Tangihua Rivers. Section 4, chiefly forest land of medium quality. Section 5, about 360 acres forest, balance open land, broken to medium, and all well watered. Section 6, chiefly forest land, with some good flats on Waiotama Stream. Section 7, about one-third mixed forest and kahikatea, on Waiotama and Tangihua Rivers; the land is of good quality on the river-flats. Section 8, about 400 acres forest, balance open broken country of medium quality; watered by the Tangihua and Maru-maru Streams. Section 10, principally open land of medium quality. Section 11, mostly low-lying land, with 120 acres bush; on Wairoa River. These lands are from one to four miles from Tangiteroria, and about eighteen miles from Whangarei.

Section 37, about 250 acres forest, balance generally broken land covered with fern and burnt bush. Section 38, all forest land. Both lots situated about eighteen miles from Whangarei.
