Section 33, Block V., Mount Cerberus, Akitio County, is situated in the Pahiatua No. 1 Block, on the Alfredton-Weber Road. The access is from Pongaroa Township or Waione, which are about four miles and a half distant by a formed dray-road. The section comprises flat and sloping land. The approach is somewhat difficult owing to a deep creek intervening. The soil is good, resting on papa formation. The forest is mixed, comprising rata, rimu, tawa, with a few totaras, with an open undergrowth of rangiora, supplejack, &c. The section is well watered by permanent streams. The elevation ranges from about 400 ft. to 500 ft. above sea-level.

Section 5, Block X., Mount Cerberus, Akitio County, is situated on the Kaituna Road, distant five miles by horse-track from its junction with the Alfredton-Weber Road. The access is from Waione or Pongaroa, which are distant about nine and ten miles respectively. The section comprises hilly and undulating land. The soil is papa-silt and clay, resting on papa formation. The forest is of mixed character, comprising rimu, rata, totara, tawa, hinau, &c., with a moderate undergrowth of supplejack, rangiora, lawyer, &c. The section is partially watered by the Mangaone Stream in front of section. The elevation ranges from about 600 ft. to 900 ft. above sea-level.

Section 17, Block X., Mount Cerberus, Akitio County, is situated on the Akaroa Road, distant by horse-track two miles from junction of the Alfredton-Weber Road. The access is from Pongaroa, which is about four miles distant. The section comprises hilly land and gullies. The approach is somewhat difficult owing to steepness of land on road-frontage. The soil is papa-silt and clay, resting on papa formation. The forest is of mixed character, comprising rimu, rata, tawa, matai, &c., with a rather dense undergrowth of rangiora, supplejack, konini, lawyer, &c. The section is well watered by two creeks at back and one in front. The elevation ranges from about 500 ft. to 700 ft. above sea-level.

Section 13, Block X., Mount Cerberus, Akitio County, is situated on the Kaituna Road horse-track, two miles from junction of Alfredton-Weber dray-road. The access is from Pongaroa or Waione, which are about seven and six miles distant respectively. The section comprises hilly land and gullies. The soil is of papa-silt mixed with clay, resting on papa formation. The forest is of mixed character, comprising rimu, rata, tawa, matai, hinau, and totara, with the usual undergrowth of supplejack, rangiora, konini, lawyer, &c. The section is well watered by two creeks. The elevation ranges from about 600 ft. to 700 ft. above sea-level.

Section 4, Block V., Puketoi, is situated at the junction of Pori and Saunders Roads, and is distant about six miles from Alfredton Township by a formed dray-road. It comprises hilly land, with about 10 acres flat. The soil is fair, on a sandstone-and-papa formation, and is covered with mixed bush, with the exception of about 30 acres. The forest comprises rimu, birch, manuka, and the usual undergrowth. The improvements comprise—whare (old), 10 ft. x 15 ft. x 6 ft., split, £3; 23 acres grassed, at £2, £46; 2 acres grassed, at £1 10s., £3; 13 chains fencing, at 7s. 6d., £4 17s. 6d.: total, £56 17s. 6d. Survey-fee, £18 15s.

Section 57, Block X., Kaitawa, Horowhenua County, is situated in the Wellington Fruit-growers’ Block, in the Waikanae Valley. The access is from Waikanae Railway-station, which is about four miles and a half distant: two miles and a half are metalled dray-road, and the rest is formed sufficiently wide to enable a dray to be taken over it. The section comprises some nice flat and undulating land on the front, rising and becoming rather broken at the back. The whole lays well to the sun. The soil is of good quality in front, and fair at the back, resting on clay and rock formation. The forest is medium heavy, comprising mainly rimu, matai, hinau, rata, tawa, birch (on ridges), &c., with a thick undergrowth of supplejack, keakea, horopito, ponga, &c. The section is well watered by springs and small streams. The improvements comprise—160 acres grassed, at £1 17s. 6d., £300; stumping, £12; 75 chains fencing, at 16s., £60; orchard, £20; two-roomed cottage (£30), old whare (£17), £47: total, £439.

Section 38, Block X., Kaitawa, Hutt County, is situated in the Wellington Fruit-growers’ Block, in the Waikanae Valley. The access is from Waikanae Railway-station, which is about five miles distant: two miles and a half is metalled dray-road; the rest has been felled, but not formed. The section comprises, generally speaking, rough spurs; there are a few acres of almost flat land in the northern corner. The soil is of fairly good quality, resting on clay and rock formation. The forest is medium heavy, comprising mainly rimu, matai, hinau, tawa, rata, &c., with a thick undergrowth of the usual kind. The section is well watered by small streams. The improvements comprise—about 12 acres burnt, at £1 5s., £15; 20 acres grassed, at £1 15s., £35: total, £50.
