Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor of the
Colony of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the
powers conferred upon him by “The Electric Lines Act,
1884,” and of all other powers enabling him in this behalf,
and acting by and with the advice and consent of the Execu-
tive Council of the said colony, doth hereby revoke the
regulation set forth in the Schedule to the aforesaid Order
in Council, and in lieu thereof doth hereby make the regu-
lations set forth in the Schedule hereto, and doth declare
that such last-mentioned regulations shall have effect on and
from the first publication of this Order in Council in the
New Zealand Gazette.
SCHEDULE.
REGULATIONS.
For the purposes of these regulations the expression “long-
distance wires” shall mean wires ordinarily used for tele-
graph purposes.

Government telephones may only be used by the public
for the purpose of conversing over long-distance wires at
such times as may be fixed and notified by the Electric
Telegraph Commissioner. -
The following are the charges to be paid by the public
for the use of Government telephones at such times and for
such purpose as aforesaid:—
For a period not exceeding six minutes, 2s. 6d.; and a
further charge of 2s. 6d. for every additional six
minutes or portion of six minutes.

Altering Date of Election of Councillors in certain Counties.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.
At the Government House, at Wellington, this twenty-third
day of October, 1899.
Present:
HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR IN COUNCIL.
WHEREAS by section eighty-eight of “The Counties
Act, 1886” (hereinafter termed “the said Act”), it
is provided that the general election of members of the
various County Councils throughout the colony shall be
held on the second Wednesday in November: And whereas
it is expedient to extend the time for holding such election
in certain counties:
Now, therefore, His Excellency Uchter John Mark, Earl
of Ranfurly, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in
exercise of the powers and authorities vested in him by sec-
tion three hundred and twenty-two of the said Act, and of
all other powers in anywise enabling him in this behalf, and
acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive
Council of the said colony, doth hereby extend the time for
holding the general election of Councillors for the Counties
of Hutt, Amuri, Geraldine, Mackenzie, Waitaki, Waimate,
and Levels; and doth hereby order and declare that in the
aforesaid counties the said general election shall be held
and take place on Wednesday, the fifteenth day of Novem-
ber, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-nine.

Vesting Gravel Reserves in the Ekatahuna County Council.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.
At the Government House, at Wellington, this twenty-
third day of October, 1899.
Present:
HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR IN COUNCIL.
WHEREAS the lands mentioned in the Schedule hereto
were set aside permanently as gravel reserves on
the dates specified therein:
And whereas, in the opinion of the Governor, it is expe-
dient that the said land should be vested in the Ekatahuna
County Council:
Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor of the
Colony of New Zealand, by and with the advice and consent
of the Executive Council of the said colony, and in exercise
of the powers and authorities vested in him by the fourth
section of “The Public Reserves Act, 1881,” doth hereby
declare that, from and after the day of the date hereof,
the reserves mentioned in the Schedule hereto shall become
vested in “The Chairman, Councillors, and Inhabitants of
the Ekatahuna County,” in trust, as reserves for gravel.

Arrangements for First Election, &c., of Trustees for Taipos
Rabbit District.—Notice No. 571.
RANFURLY, Governor.
IN exercise and pursuance of the powers and authorities
conferred upon me by “The Rabbit-proof Wire-netting
Fences Act, 1898,” and of all other powers and authorities
vested in me in this behalf, I, Uchter John Mark, Earl of
Ranfurly, Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, do
hereby appoint Saturday, the twenty-first day of October,
one thousand eight hundred and ninety-nine, to be the time,
and the Stock Inspector’s office, Masterton, to be the place,
for holding the first election of three trustees of the Taipos
Rabbit-proof Wire-netting District as constituted under
“The Rabbit-proof Wire-netting Fences Act, 1898”; also to
appoint Monday, the twenty-third day of October, at noon, to
be the time, and the said Stock Inspector’s office to be the
place, at which the first meeting of the trustees of the said
district shall be held.
As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor,
this eighteenth day of October, one thousand
eight hundred and ninety-nine.

Sections 2 and 3, “Fencing Act Amendment Act, 1898,”
brought into Force within the County of Wairarapa North.

WHEREAS by section four of “The Fencing Act
Amendment Act, 1898,” it is provided that sections
two and three of that Act shall have application only within
such county of the North Island of New Zealand as the
Governor appoints in that behalf on petition of the Council
of such county: And whereas the Council of the County
of Wairarapa North have addressed a petition to the Go-
vernor praying him to appoint that the said sections two
and three of the said Act shall have application within the
said county, and it appears expedient to give effect to such
request:
Now, therefore, I, Uchter John Mark, Earl of Ranfurly,
the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in exercise of
the powers conferred upon me by the said Act, do hereby
appoint and declare that sections two and three of “The
Fencing Act Amendment Act, 1898,” shall have application
within the County of Wairarapa North on and after the
twenty-third day of October instant.
As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor,
this eighteenth day of October, one thousand
eight hundred and ninety-nine.
