The drum only will indicate that strong winds or gales are probable from about south, changing by the east towards north.
Masters of vessels calling at Bluff will in future be able to obtain information at the telegraph-office of the date on which the next barometric depression from the westward is expected.

THE Administrator of the Government in Council has been pleased to issue the following Proclamation under “The Vegetation Diseases Act, 1898” (62 Vict., No. 21).

“THE VEGETATION DISEASES ACT, 1898.”
A PROCLAMATION.
WHEREAS the Governor in Council is empowered by section three of “The Vegetation Diseases Act, 1898” (62 Vict., No. 21), to absolutely prohibit, by Proclamation in the Gazette, the importation, introduction, or bringing into Tasmania of any plant which is, in the opinion of the Governor in Council, likely to introduce any disease or insect into Tasmania: And whereas I, the Honourable John Stokell Dodds, Companion of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George, Chief Justice of the Colony of Tasmania, Administrator of the Government thereof, in Council, am of opinion that the importation, introduction, or bringing into Tasmania of any trees and plants whatsoever is likely to introduce diseases or insects into Tasmania: Now, therefore, I, in Council as aforesaid, in pursuance of the provisions of section three of the said Act, and of every other power me in this behalf enabling, do, by this my Proclamation, absolutely prohibit the importation, introduction, and bringing into the Colony of Tasmania of any fruit-trees or other trees, nursery stock, cuttings, scions, buds, grafts, shrubs, pot and greenhouse plants, or any other plants or portion of a plant whatsoever.
Given under my hand, at Hobart, in Tasmania aforesaid, this twenty-fifth day of August, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-nine.

Notice of Intention to take Land at Pelichet Bay for a Rifle-range.
NOTICE is hereby given that it is proposed, under the provisions of “The Public Works Act, 1894,” to execute a certain public work, to wit, the construction of a rifle-range at Pelichet Bay, and for the purposes of such public work the lands described in the Schedule hereto are required to be taken; and notice is further given that the plan of the lands so required to be taken is deposited in the Office of the Lands and Survey Department at Dunedin, and is there open for inspection. And notice is hereby given that all persons affected by the execution of the said public work or by the taking of the said lands shall, if they have any well-grounded objections to the execution of the said public work or to the taking of such lands, set forth the same in writing, and send such writing, within forty days from the first publication of this notice, to the Minister for Public Works, Wellington.
