Rural Lands in the Wellington Land District open for Sale or Selection.

RANFURLY, Governor,
IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the one-hundred-and-thirty-sixth section of “The Land Act, 1892,” I, Uchter John Mark, Earl of Ranfurly, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, having received the report of the Surveyor-General in this behalf, as in the said section is provided, do hereby declare that the rural lands enumerated in the Schedule hereto shall be open for sale or selection on and after the twenty-seventh day of September, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-nine; and also that the lands mentioned in the said Schedule may, at the option of the applicant, be purchased for cash, or be selected for occupation with right of purchase or on lease in perpetuity, or, in respect of any land containing or supposed to contain any metal, mineral, or valuable stone, be selected on lease in perpetuity only; and I do hereby also fix the prices at which the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased, as mentioned in the said Schedule hereto, and do declare that the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased under and subject to the provisions of “The Land Act, 1892.”

HUNTERVILLE NO. 2 BLOCK.

Section 8, Block I., Tiriraukawa, is situated in the Hunterville No. 2 Block. The access is from Hunterville, which is about twenty-four miles distant, via the Ongo and Turakina Valley Roads, which are formed for dray traffic for about seventeen miles; the balance is a formed bridle-track. The section comprises, generally speaking, hilly land, with occasional small flats; there is a fairly good building-site on the portion cleared. The soil is of good quality, resting on papa formation. The forest is rather heavy, comprising rimu, matai, hinau, rata, &c., with a thick undergrowth of the usual kind. The section is fairly well watered by small streams. The improvements comprise 22 acres grassed, at £1 15s. per acre, £38 10s.; 9 chains of fencing at 16s. per chain, £7 4s.; orchard, plantation, &c., £5: total, £50 14s.
HUNTERVILLE NO. 3 BLOCK.

Section 2, Block VI., Tiriraukawa, is situated in the Hunterville No. 3 Block. The access is from Hunterville, which is about twenty-four miles distant, via the Ongo-Turakina Valley Road and Mangamahoe Road, which are formed for dray traffic for about seventeen miles; the rest is formed bridle-track. The section comprises hilly land, with a few small flats. It is cut off from the road by the Mangamahoe Stream, which gives it a bad frontage. The soil is of good quality, resting on papa formation. The forest is medium heavy, comprised chiefly of rimu, matai, hinau, kahikatea, konini, &c., with a thick undergrowth of the usual kind. The section is well watered by the Mangamahoe and small streams. The improvements comprise about 6 acres felled and burnt, but not sown, and rubbish is growing up now.
PALMERSTON NORTH KNIGHTS OF LABOUR BLOCK.

Section 4, Block VII., Tiriraukawa, is situated in the Palmerston North Knights of Labour Block, and lies north of Hunterville, distant about fifteen miles by dray-road, thence by horse-road a further distance of about ten miles. The general quality of the land is hilly, with good soil on papa formation, well watered, and heavily timbered with mixed bush.

Section 2, Block IV., Tiriraukawa, is situated in the Palmerston North Knights of Labour Block, on Murray’s Track. The access is from Hunterville, which is about twenty-two miles distant, fifteen miles of which is a dray-road, and the balance a bridle-track. The outlet to this section in the future will probably be to Mangaweka by the road now under construction. The section comprises undulating land with about 25 acres of flat. The soil is of good quality, resting on papa formation. The forest is mixed, comprising rimu, rata, tawa, &c., with the usual undergrowth. The section is well watered.

Section 16, Block VIII., Tiriraukawa, is situated in Palmerston North Knights of Labour Block. The access is from Hunterville, which is about twenty-four miles distant via the Watershed Road and Murray’s Track, which are formed for dray traffic for about nineteen miles; the rest is formed bridle-track, which is bad in winter for travelling. The section comprises rough, hilly land with a small area of undulating country near the road. The soil is of fairly good quality, resting on papa-and-sandstone formation. The forest is rather light, comprising rimu, tawa, hinau, rangiora, &c., with a thick undergrowth of the usual kind. The section is not well watered. The improvements comprise about 14 acres felled and grassed at £1 15s. per acre—£24 10s.
WAIMARINO BLOCK.

Section 12, Block XV., Manganui, is situated in the Waimarino Block. The access is from Raetihi, which is about eight miles distant via the Ohura and Middle Roads, which are formed for dray traffic for about four miles; the rest is formed bridle-track, bad in winter. The section comprises all flat or undulating land. The soil is of good quality, resting on gravel-and-sandstone formation. The forest is heavy, comprising rimu, matai, miro, maire, tawa, &c., with a thick undergrowth of konini, karamu, rangiora, horopito, akepirau, &c. The section is watered by the Orauto Stream. The elevation ranges from about 2,200 ft. to 2,400 ft. above sea-level. The improvements comprise felling and grassing 80 acres at £2—£160.
