Rural Lands in the Hawke’s Bay Land District open for Sale or Selection.

RANFURLY, Governor.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the one-hundred-and-thirty-sixth section of “The Land Act, 1892,” I, Uchter John Mark, Earl of Ranfurly, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, having received the report of the Surveyor-General in this behalf, as in the said section is provided, do hereby declare that the rural lands enumerated in the Schedule hereto shall be open for sale or selection on and after the sixth day of September, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-nine; and also that the lands mentioned in the said Schedule may, at the option of the applicant, be purchased for cash, or be selected for occupation with right of purchase or on lease in perpetuity, or, in respect of any land containing or supposed to contain any metal, mineral, or valuable stone, be selected on lease in perpetuity only; and I do hereby also fix the prices at which the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased, as mentioned in the said Schedule hereto, and do declare that the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased under and subject to the provisions of “The Land Act, 1892.”

Fair land, with mixed bush, and good road-access, being within one mile and a half of the main Gisborne–Wairoa Road at Tiniroto. The soil is generally good, and the vegetation is fern, tutu, and other scrub, with a good deal of grass in places.

Weighted with £90 for improvements.

Broken limestone country. Big manuka on tops of ridges; rimu, matai, and a few totara on slopes; fair soil; well watered, and suitable for pastoral purposes. About four miles distant from the Napier–Taupo Road, near Pohui. Ninety acres were felled and grassed in 1895.

Sections 1 and 5 weighted with £130 for improvements.

Undulating and hilly country, with elevation above sea-level ranging from 500 ft. to 2,500 ft.; covered with mixed bush, consisting chiefly of rimu, matai, tawa, rata, &c., in the valleys, with birch on the tops of the highest ridges; well watered; formation, papa rock, with patches of sandstone and limestone interspersed. The sections are about three miles distant from the Gisborne–Opotiki Road and five miles from Motu Village, situated fifty-four miles north-west of Gisborne. Sixty-five acres on Sections 1 and 5 have been felled and are now in grass.

Shooting Season for Native Game extended.

RANFURLY, Governor.

WHEREAS by notifications under “The Animals Protection Act, 1880,” dated the twentieth day of March, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-nine, and published in the New Zealand Gazette of the twenty-third of the said month of March, it was declared that native game, with certain exceptions, might be taken or killed within the districts specified in the said notifications from the thirty-first day of March, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-nine, to the thirtieth day of June, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-nine, both days inclusive; And whereas it is expedient to extend the time within which native game may be taken or killed within the said districts:

Now, therefore, I, Uchter John Mark, Earl of Ranfurly, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in exercise of the powers vested in me by the said “Animals Protection Act, 1880,” and the Acts amending the same, do hereby notify and declare that native game, excepting the species mentioned in the Schedule hereto, may be taken or killed until the thirty-first day of the present month of July throughout the said several districts, with the exception of the several areas or parts of districts especially exempted in the said notifications respectively.

SCHEDULE.

SPECIES NOT TO BE TAKEN OR KILLED.

In all districts: Tui, huia, white heron, and crested grebe. In Wellington District: Paradise-duck and blue mountain-duck. In Marlborough District: Native pigeon, pukeko, and paradise-duck. In Otago District: Wild geese and bittern. In Southland District: Great kiwi (roaroa), morepork owl (ruru), and bittern.

As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor, this thirteenth day of July, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-nine.

Polling-places for the City of Wellington Electoral District abolished and appointed.

RANFURLY, Governor.

IN pursuance of the powers vested in me by “The Electoral Act, 1893,” I, Uchter John Mark, Earl of Ranfurly, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, do hereby abolish the existing polling-places for the Electoral District of City of Wellington, and do hereby appoint the under-mentioned places to be polling-places for the said Electoral District of City of Wellington:—

Taine’s Auction Mart, Customhouse Quay (principal);
The Public School, Riddiford Street;
The Victoria Hall, Adelaide Road;
St. Mark’s School-room, Sussex Square;
The Hall near corner of Buckle Street and Banks Terrace;
The Primitive Methodist School-room, Webb Street;
The Skating Rink, Ingestre Street;
The Public School, Upper Willis Street;
The Presbyterian School-room near corner of Pirie Street and Kent Terrace;
The Infant School, Clyde Quay;
The Rechabite Hall, Manners Street;
The Boys’ Institute, Victoria Street;
The Criterion Theatre, Manners Street;
The Sailors’ Rest, Jervois Quay;
