(3.) Whether, in the event of no one machine or process being entitled to the whole bonus, they deem any machine or process worthy of a part of the bonus, and, if so, how much.

BONUS NO. 2.

A bonus of £250 is offered for a process of utilising the waste products of the hemp.

The first three conditions of Bonus No. 1 to apply to this also.

The committee shall supply a sufficient and equal quantity of the waste products to each process as a test.

On completion of the tests the committee shall report to the Minister, and shall give the following particulars of each process: (a.) The nature of the article made. (b.) The quantity produced, and the cost of production. (c.) The value of the product. (d.) Whether any of the processes are of sufficient importance to warrant the Minister in giving (1) the whole, or (2) any part, of the bonus; (3) if a part only, how much.

Result of Poll for Proposed Loan, Borough of the City of Nelson.

THE following notice, received from the Mayor of the Borough of the City of Nelson, is published in accordance with the provisions of “The Municipal Corporations Act, 1886.”

In the matter of “The Municipal Corporations Act, 1886,” and “The Abattoirs and Slaughterhouses Act, 1894.”

To the Hon. the Colonial Secretary, Wellington.

I, THE undersigned Francis Trask, Mayor of the City of Nelson, in pursuance of section 184 of “The Municipal Corporations Act, 1886,” hereby give you notice that a poll was taken on the 15th day of June, 1899, upon the following proposal to raise a special loan :—

“CITY OF NELSON.

“Town Clerk’s Office, 18th May, 1899.

“Notice is hereby given that the Council of the City of Nelson propose to raise a special loan as follows: The work proposed to be undertaken is the erection and establishment of a public abattoir for the City of Nelson. The sum proposed to be borrowed for the above purpose is £7,500. It is proposed to pledge as security for the loan a special rate of 1½d. in the pound on all rateable property within the city.

And that the result of the said poll was as follows :—

For the proposal, 350 votes; against the proposal, 227 votes.

I therefore declare the resolution in favour of the said proposal to be duly carried.

I, FRANCIS TRASK, Mayor of the City of Nelson, in New Zealand, do solemnly and sincerely declare,—

  1. That a poll was taken on the 15th day of June, 1899, upon the proposal to raise a special loan set forth on the voting-paper attached hereto and marked “A.”

  2. That all the proceedings required by the above-mentioned Acts to be taken in or towards obtaining the sanction of the burgesses to the said proposals have been duly taken.

  3. That the resolution in favour of the said proposal has been duly carried.

And I make this solemn declaration conscientiously believing the same to be true, and by virtue of the provisions of an Act of the General Assembly of New Zealand intituled “The Justices of the Peace Act, 1882.”

IT is hereby notified, in accordance with section 311 of “The Counties Act, 1886,” that so much of the By-law No. VII., made by the Waipa County Council, and sealed on the 30th May, 1899, as appoints the several sums to be paid to the county funds for the licensing of vehicles has this day been approved by His Excellency the Governor.

VICTORIA.—PORT PHILLIP BAY.—SHOAL IN WEST CHANNEL.

Referring to the black-cask buoy situated off Queenscliff, about W.S.W ½ S. 6½ cables from No. 1 Buoy, West Channel, it has been discovered that a shoal patch, with 7 ft. of water over it at low water, exists at half a cable S. 70° W. of such black-cask buoy. Such shoal is now being surveyed, and persons navigating in the vicinity are warned to make their course so as to keep at least a cable to the southward when passing such black-cask buoy.
