Formation of Mounted Rifle Volunteer Battalion.

HIS Excellency the Governor has been pleased to approve, under paragraph 211, Volunteer Regulations, 1895, of the formation of the under-mentioned corps in the Canterbury District into a mounted battalion, under the designation of the “Canterbury Battalion of Mounted Rifle Volunteers,” with headquarters at Christchurch, and with effect from the 1st day of May, 1899,—
A Company—The Canterbury Yeomanry Cavalry Volunteers,
B „ The Canterbury Mounted Rifle Volunteers,
C „ The Ellesmere Mounted Rifle Volunteers,
D „ The South Canterbury Mounted Rifle Volunteers;
and also to approve of the appointment of
Major HENRY SLATER, V.D., Unattached Active List, New Zealand Volunteers,
to command the battalion.

THE following special order, made by the Manganui Road Board, is published in accordance with the provisions of “The Road Boards Act, 1882.”

MANGANUI ROAD BOARD.
Notice is hereby given that the following special order was made on Monday, 1st May, 1899, and confirmed on Monday, 5th June, 1899:—
“That, to secure the repayment of a further loan of £30 raised under ‘The Government Loans to Local Bodies Act, 1886,’ for the purpose of completing the draining, culverting, and formation required to give access to the sections in Block XVI., Egmont, on the upper portion of Radnor Road, and of forming and metalling a portion of the road commencing at the eastern boundary of Section 24, Manganui, and extending westward about 40 chains; to set aside the Land Fund money accruing from Sections 33, 34, 35, 36, 37, 38, 39, Block XVI., Egmont, for the purpose of paying interest on this loan; to strike as security on this loan a special rate of ½d. in the pound over the following lands—namely, Sections 33, 34, 35, 36, 37, 38, 39, Block XVI., Egmont Survey District, such rate to be an annually recurring rate for twenty-six years, and shall be payable in two half-yearly instalments on the 1st of January and the 1st of July if required.”
