THE following notices, received from the Chairman of the Hawera County Council, are published in accordance with the provisions of “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1886.”

HAWERA COUNTY COUNCIL.
LOAN of £800, under the Provisions of “The Government Loans to Local Bodies Act, 1886,” and the Amendments thereof, for metalling the Stuart Road from the Mountain Road to Junction with the Dalziel Road; thence the Dalziel Road southward to a point about 38 chains from the Boylan Road.
Notice is hereby given that the poll of ratepayers taken on the 6th instant resulted as follows:—
Number of voters on roll, 15; number of votes exercisable, 17: Number of voters for proposal, 9; number of votes for proposal, 10; number of voters and votes against proposal, 1.
I therefore declare the proposal to be carried.

PURUA ROAD BOARD.
Result of Poll for Proposed Loan, Campbelltown and Campbelltown Extension.
Notice is hereby given that a poll, taken on the 15th day of December, 1898, on the proposal to borrow £2,000 for the purpose of laying down and constructing drainage-works and waterworks in the above district, under “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1886,” and “The Government Loans to Local Bodies Act, 1886,” was as under :—
Number of votes on roll, 59: Number of votes exercised, 36; number of votes in favour of proposal, 31; number of votes against, 2; number of informal votes, 3; number of voters in favour of proposal, 26; number of voters against the proposal, 2.
And I, William James Treadwell, Chairman of the Purua Road Board, do hereby declare the said resolution to be rejected.

Notice to Mariners, No. 1 of 1899.
KAIPARA HARBOUR.

WITH reference to Notice to Mariners No. 30, issued by this department on the 6th July, 1893, it is hereby notified that the Harbourmaster at Kaipara reports that the bank in the Otamatea Channel has extended both north and south of the position shown on the chart, and that it has now only 8 ft. of water on its shallowest part at low water.
Oewa Mound bears E. ½ N., distant 1½ miles.
A red buoy has been placed westward of the shoal in three fathoms at low water.
Bearings correct magnetic.
Charts, &c., affected: Admiralty chart No. 2614; “New Zealand Pilot,” Chapter vi., pages 249 to 255.

OUTER ANCHORAGE, FLAT-TOP ISLAND, PORT MACKAY.
Notice is hereby given that, on and after the 23rd instant, the light from the leading-beacons on the S.W. end of Flat-top Island will show red between the bearings of N.W. by N. and N.W. ½ W.
The same light shows green between the bearings of N.W. ¼ W. and W. by N. ¼ N.
The red sector leads through the Flat-top anchorage to the fairway buoy, and the green sector leads over the shingle spit and line of telegraph cable.
Two yellow cone buoys mark the line of the telegraph cable by day.
Chart affected: No. 347, and Australia Directory, Vol. ii.

Notice to Mariners, No. 3 of 1899.
DAGGS SOUND, WEST COAST, MIDDLE ISLAND, NEW ZEALAND.

Wellington, N.Z., 9th January, 1899.
REFERRING to Notice to Mariners, No. 7 of 1898, issued by this department on the 17th January, 1898, respecting the rock in Daggs Sound on which the s.s. “Tutanekai” touched, it is hereby further notified that the locality referred to has recently been examined by Captain Bollons, of the Government steamer “Hinemoa,” who reports that the rock is situated a little south of a line drawn from Schooner Point to Otago Point, with the beach at the head of Anchorage Arm half closed in by the point forming the western head of that arm, and a long cable’s length off the southern shore. It carries 10 ft. at low water, spring tides, and has shoal water (from 5 to 16 fathoms) at a distance of 200 ft. on the north-east and west sides, and is steep-to on the south side. There is a passage between the rock and the mainland with not less than 15 fathoms in it.
The following are the correct magnetic bearings from the rock:—
Schooner Point, E. ½ S., 3 cables.
Otago Point, W. ¾ N.
Seventy-fathoms Point, N. 4° E.
Charts, &c., affected: Admiralty Charts Nos. 768 and 2591; “New Zealand Pilot,” Chap. ix., pages 372 and 373.
