  1. That, to secure the repayment of a loan of £300 raised under “The Government Loans to Local Bodies Act, 1886,” for the purpose of gravelling the remaining portion of the Lepper Road South, from Section 127, Block IV., Egmont, southwards,—

  2. A special rate of ⅜d. in the pound be made and levied over the following lands, which are hereby constituted the Lepper Road South Special Rating District: Sections 121, 122, 123, 125, 126 (in two subdivisions), 127 (in five subdivisions), 147, Block IV., Egmont S.D.; 138, 142, 143, 144, 145, 146, Block III., Egmont S.D.; part 7, 8, 9 (in two subdivisions), 10 (in two subdivisions), 11, 12, 13, Block VII., Egmont S.D.

Such rate to be an annual-recurring rate for twenty-six years, and to be payable, in two half-yearly instalments, on the 1st day of January and the 1st day of July in each year.

Notice is hereby given that this Board proposes to make the following special order:—

  2. A special rate of ⅜d. in the pound be made and levied over the following lands, which are hereby constituted the Durham Road West Special Rating District: Sections 140, 141, 142, 143 (in two subdivisions), 144, 145 (in two subdivisions), 146, 148, 149, 150, 151, 152, 153, 154, 155, 156, 157, part 158, 185, 186, 187, 188, 189, Block VIII., Egmont S.D.; 9, 10, 13, 14, 15, 16, Block VIII., Egmont S.D.; 2, 3 (in two subdivisions), 4, 5, 6, Block XI., Egmont S.D.; 1, 2, Block XII., Egmont S.D.

Such rate to be an annual-recurring rate for twenty-six years, and to be payable, in two half-yearly instalments, on the 1st day of January and the 1st day of July in each year.

Result of a poll taken on the 8th day of December, 1898, upon the proposal to borrow £800, under “The Government Loans to Local Bodies Act, 1886,” and its amendments, for forming, grading, and metalling a portion of the Brookes Road:—

Number of ratepayers on special roll, 9; number of votes exercisable, 10: Number of ratepayers voting in favour of the proposal, 6; number of votes recorded in favour of the proposal, 7; number of ratepayers voting against the proposal, 1; number of votes recorded against the proposal, 1.

I declare the above proposal to be carried.

BOROUGH OF KARORI.—PROPOSAL TO RAISE A SPECIAL LOAN OF £2,000.

Notice is hereby given that the result of the poll taken on the 9th day of December, 1898, on the proposal to borrow £2,000 under the provisions of “The Municipal Corporations Act, 1886,” for the purpose of additional works in connection with the construction of the tunnel, and the road made in connection therewith, was as follows:—

Number of ratepayers on roll, 203; number of votes exercisable, 203: Number of burgesses who voted for the proposal, 112; number of votes recorded for the proposal, 112; number of burgesses who voted against the proposal, 5; number of votes recorded against the proposal, 5.

I therefore declare the proposal duly carried.

I, Richard Crofts Bulkley, of the Borough of Karori, in the Provincial District of Wellington, Mayor of the said borough, do solemnly and sincerely declare that all proceedings required by “The Municipal Corporations Act, 1886,” to be taken in or towards obtaining the sanction of the burgesses of the said borough to the proposal to raise a special loan of £2,000 for the said borough have been duly taken, and that the resolution in favour of such proposal has been duly carried.

And I make this solemn declaration conscientiously believing the same to be true, and by virtue of the provisions of an Act of the General Assembly of New Zealand intituled “The Justices of the Peace Act, 1882.”

Bonus for the Production of Quicksilver.

Wellington, 17th February, 1898.

NOTICE is hereby given that a bonus of fourpence (4d.) per pound will be paid on the production of the first one hundred thousand pounds weight (100,000lb.) of good marketable retorted quicksilver, free from all impurities, from any mine in New Zealand, on the following conditions, that is to say:—

  1. That at least one-third of the quantity is produced on or before the 31st March, 1900, and the remaining two-thirds on or before the 31st March, 1901.

  2. No bonus will be payable until the whole of the one hundred thousand pounds (100,000 lb.) of quicksilver has been produced as stipulated to the satisfaction of an officer to be appointed by the Minister of Mines, and on whose certificate alone the bonus will be paid.

  3. In the event of more than one person producing the required quantities of quicksilver before the dates named, inquiry will be made by the officer above referred to, when, if it is found that each applicant is equally entitled to a bonus, the amount will be divided in proportion to the quantities produced by each applicant, but in no case shall any bonus be paid until at least one hundred thousand pounds (100,000 lb.) of quicksilver has been produced in the aggregate.

Bonus on Mineral Oil produced from Shale obtained in New Zealand.

Colonial Secretary’s Office,
Wellington, 29th October, 1898.

NOTICE is hereby given that a bonus will be paid for the production of mineral oil under the following conditions:—

  1. A bonus of 1s. per gallon (£5,000) will be paid on the first 100,000 gallons of mineral oil produced from shale obtained in the Colony of New Zealand, the oil to be of a quality approved of by Government, and to be sold at a price not exceeding 1s. a gallon at any port of shipment in the colony.

  2. Notice of intention to claim the aforesaid bonus must be given in writing to the Colonial Secretary not later than the 31st December, 1899.

  3. The claim must be made before the 30th June, 1900.

  4. The first claimant who proves to the satisfaction of the Government that he has fulfilled all the conditions to be the recipient of the bonus.

  5. The other conditions—as to quantity, priority, quality, and value—to be fulfilled to the satisfaction of an officer appointed for the purpose by the Government.
