Officiating Ministers for 1898.—Notice No. 34.

Wellington, 21st November, 1898.

PURSUANT to the provisions of an Act of the General Assembly of New Zealand passed in the forty-fourth year of the reign of Her Majesty Queen Victoria, and intituled “The Marriage Act, 1880,” the following name of an Officiating Minister within the meaning of the said Act is published for general information:—

Church of the Province of New Zealand, commonly called the Church of England.

Regulations under “The Law Practitioners Act, 1882.”

BY virtue of the powers vested in us by law, it is ordered by us, being the Judges of the Supreme Court, that the following rules and regulations under “The Law Practitioners Act, 1882,” shall come into force on and after the 15th day of June, 1898.

AMENDED REGULATIONS FOR LAW EXAMINATIONS.

  1. The 3rd of the regulations for law examinations made on the 6th May, 1893, shall be altered as follows:—

All the words in the 3rd regulation after the words “bachelor of laws” shall be omitted, and the words following substituted in place of the words to be omitted: “If a candidate splits his examination into two, he shall pay for each examination the following fees: In the case of barristers, a fee of three guineas for each of the two examinations; and in the case of solicitors, a fee of two guineas for each of the two examinations.”


Notice.—“The Foreign Insurance Companies Deposits Act, 1894,” and in re the Victoria Insurance Company.

THE Public Trustee has received a notice as follows:—

“Dunedin, 26th October, 1898.

“The Public Trustee, Wellington.

“Sir,—We have now, on behalf of the Victoria Insurance Company—the old company—to give you the notice prescribed by section 17 of ‘The Foreign Insurance Companies Deposits Act, 1894,’ that it has ceased to carry on business in the colony, and that it proposes, at the expiration of six months, to withdraw the deposit of £5,000 lodged by it with you. The new company, which has lodged with you £10,000 by way of deposit, will carry on the business formerly carried on by the old company. Will you kindly write accepting this as the prescribed notice?

“We have, &c.,

“SMITH, CHAPMAN, AND SINCLAIR,

“For and on behalf of the said Victoria Insurance Company, L.”

And has decided to consent to the withdrawal of the deposit mentioned in the notice above set out on or after the 29th day of April, 1899, provided that he is then satisfied as to the several matters referred to in section 17 of the above-quoted Act.

Notice of Vesting of Land in the Public Trustee under “The Unclaimed Lands Act, 1894.”

WHEREAS I, the undersigned, the Public Trustee, have, for the purposes of “The Unclaimed Lands Act, 1894,” made due inquiries with respect to the land described in the Schedule hereunder written, and the owner thereof, and have, in respect of the said land, given the notices prescribed by section 4 of the said Act, and have in all respects complied with the provisions of the said section: And whereas I have not thereby ascertained who the owner is, and believe that such owner is not in the colony, nor has such owner established his title to the said land, as required by the said Act: I hereby give notice that the said land is, under and by virtue of the said Act, vested in me, as the Public Trustee as aforesaid, as from the date of the publication hereof, and will be administered under the said Act, the assessed value of the said land being less than £100.

Dated at Wellington, this 22nd day of November, 1898.

SCHEDULE.

ALL that parcel of land, containing 1 acre, more or less, being Allotment 231, Section 2, Town of Opotiki, in the Provincial District of Auckland.


Notice of Vesting of Land in the Public Trustee under “The Unclaimed Lands Act, 1894.”

WHEREAS I, the undersigned, the Public Trustee, have, for the purposes of “The Unclaimed Lands Act, 1894,” made due inquiries with respect to the land described in the Schedule hereunder written, and the owner thereof, and have, in respect of the said land, given the notices prescribed by section 4 of the said Act, and have in all respects complied with the provisions of the said section: And whereas I have not thereby ascertained who the owner is, and believe that such owner is not in the colony, nor has such owner established his title to the said land, as required by the said Act: I hereby give notice that the said land is, under and by virtue of the said Act, vested in me, as the Public Trustee as aforesaid, as from the date of the publication hereof, and will be administered under the said Act, the assessed value of the said land being less than £100.

ALL that parcel of land, containing 10·2 poles, more or less, being Allotment 16, Block XI., in the Extension of the Township of South Dunedin, in the Provincial District of Otago, having a frontage to Brougham Street of 55 links.


Notice by the Public Trustee under “The Unclaimed Lands Act, 1894.”

To the owner or owners of a parcel of land, containing 1 acre, being Allotment 184, Town of Kihikihi, in the Provincial District of Auckland. The land was Crown-granted to John Baxter, who never lifted his title, and who cannot be traced. The land was and may be still in the occupation of Mr. Michael D. Dinneen.

WHEREAS the Public Trustee has instituted inquiries, and has not thereby ascertained who the owner or owners of the above-described land is or are, and believes that such owner is, or owners are, not in the colony:

Now, this notice calls upon such owner or owners, within six months of the date of the publication of this notice in this Gazette, to establish to the satisfaction of the Public Trustee his or their title to the land specified in this notice; and, if such owner does or owners do not, within the time limited, so establish his or their title, the Public Trustee will exercise the powers and authorities granted to him in and by “The Unclaimed Lands Act, 1894.”
