Altering the Name of the Town of Birmingham.

A PROCLAMATION.
WHEREAS by sections two and three of “The Designation of Districts Act, 1894” (hereinafter termed “the said Act”), it is provided that the Governor in Council may, at the request or with the consent of the Council of any county, city, or borough, alter the geographical name or designation of any place or locality in the colony:
And whereas the Kiwitea County Council has requested that the present name of “Birmingham,” within the County of Kiwitea, be altered as hereinafter mentioned, and it appears expedient to comply with such request:
Now, therefore, I, Uchter John Mark, Earl of Ranfurly, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, acting by and with the consent of the Executive Council of the said colony, do hereby proclaim and declare that the Township of Birmingham, in the County of Kiwitea aforesaid, shall, on and after the fourth day of February, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-nine, be called and known by the name of “Kimbolton,” and the name of the said Township of Birmingham is hereby altered accordingly.
Given under the hand of His Excellency the Right Honourable Uchter John Mark, Earl of Ranfurly; Knight Commander of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George; Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over Her Majesty’s Colony of New Zealand and its Dependencies; and issued under the Seal of the said Colony, at the Government House, at Wellington, this first day of August, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and ninety-eight.

Notice of Intention to change the Purpose of a Reserve in the Wellington Land District.
RANFURLY, Governor.
WHEREAS by “The Public Reserves Act, 1881,” it is, amongst other things, enacted that the Governor may declare his intention to make, change, exchange, or alter the dedication of any public reserve now or hereafter vested in Her Majesty or the Governor for any of the purposes named in Class II. of the Schedule to the said Act, whether the same be granted or not; if it shall, in the opinion of the Governor, be expedient to change the purpose of such reserve or any part thereof from the purpose or presumed purpose for which it was set apart to any other purpose, or if it shall, in the opinion of the Governor, be expedient to exchange any of the land comprised in such reserve for other land of equal value, to be dedicated to one or more purposes named in the said Class II., the Governor may, by notice gazetted, declare his intention to make such change, exchange, or dedication, as the case may be, and in such notice declare the manner and terms in which the same is intended to be so made:
Now, therefore, I, Uchter John Mark, Earl of Ranfurly, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, do hereby, in exercise and pursuance of the powers and authorities vested in me by “The Public Reserves Act, 1881,” aforesaid, declare my intention to change the specific purpose of the reserve described in the Schedule hereto from a public-hall site to a site for a Mechanics’ Institute and Library.
SCHEDULE.
All that parcel of land in the Wellington Land District, containing by admeasurement 1 rood, more or less, being Section No. 3, Block VI., Taihape Township.
As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor, this thirty-first day of October, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-eight.

THE following notices, received from the Chairman of the Pohangina County Council, are published in accordance with the provisions of “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1886.”

COUNTY OF POHANGINA.—THE DELAWARE SPECIAL RATING DISTRICT.
THE following is the result of a poll taken on Tuesday, the 15th day of November, 1898, on a proposal of the Pohangina County Council to raise the sum of £2,731 by way of a loan under the provisions of “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1886,” and amendments, for the purpose of forming and metalling roads, and to levy a special rate on the value of the several properties within the above special rating district:—
Number of ratepayers on special roll, 15; number of votes exercisable, 15; Number of ratepayers who voted for the proposal, 10; number of votes recorded for the proposal, 10; number of ratepayers who voted against the proposal, nil; number of votes recorded against the proposal, nil.
A majority of the ratepayers, exercising more than one-half of the total number of votes exercisable, having voted for the proposal, I therefore declare it to be carried.

THE following is the result of a poll taken on Friday, the 11th day of November, 1898, on a proposal of the Pohangina County Council to raise the sum of £3,200 by way of a loan under the provisions of “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1886,” and amendments, for the purpose of forming, bridging, and metalling the Makiekie and Makoura Roads, and to levy a special rate on the value of the several properties within the above special rating district:—
Number of ratepayers on special roll, 21; number of votes exercisable, 21: Number of ratepayers who voted for the proposal, 15; number of votes recorded for the proposal, 15; number of ratepayers who voted against the proposal, nil; number of votes recorded against the proposal, nil.
A majority of the ratepayers, exercising more than one-half of the total number of votes exercisable, having voted for the proposal, I therefore declare it to be carried.

Visible from all points at sea except when between the bearings of (magnetic) north and N. 6° E., N. 12° E. and N. 15° E., and on the bearings of N. 19½° E. (obscured by Saint Mary’s Isles); also obscured from south to S. 9° E. by coconut trees.
