NOTICE is hereby given that the under-mentioned sections on the Colliery Reserve, in the Town of Westport, will be offered for lease by auction for a term of forty-two years, under “The Westland and Nelson Coalfields Administration Act, 1877,” and its amending Acts, at the Courthouse, Westport, on Wednesday, the 7th December, 1898, at noon.

Village-homestead Allotment in Nelson open for Selection on Lease in Perpetuity.

THE under-mentioned village-homestead allotment will be open for selection on lease in perpetuity at this office on Wednesday, 14th December, 1898.

If more than one application be received upon the same day, then the order of selection shall be decided by ballot on the following day, at 11 a.m.

The above section is loaded with £10 for value of improvements, which consist of two small buildings. The section has been cleared and grassed with the exception of a little shelter-bush.

Reserves in Akaroa County, Canterbury, for Lease by Public Tender.

District Lands and Survey Office,
Christchurch, 11th October, 1898.

NOTICE is hereby given, under section 23 of “The Public Reserves Act, 1881,” that written tenders for the lease of the under-mentioned reserves for terms of seven years will be received up to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, the 14th December, 1898.

Tenders must be enclosed in sealed envelopes, addressed to the Commissioner of Crown Lands, Christchurch, and marked on the outside “Tender for Reserve ,” and must be accompanied by a post-office order, or by bank draft, or cheque marked “Correct for fourteen days” by the bank on which it is drawn, for the amount of one year’s rent of the reserve at the rate tendered, together with a lease-fee of £1 1s.

The highest or any tender will not necessarily be accepted.

AKAROA COUNTY.

Reserve 151, Okain’s Bay: Area, 2 roods 32 perches; upset rental per annum, £2.

Reserve 160, Okain’s Bay: Area, 3 acres 1 rood 21 perches; upset rental per annum, £3 7s. 8d.

Reserve 169, Petit Carenage Bay, Akaroa Harbour: Area, 10 acres; upset rental per annum, £2 10s.

NOTE.—Reserve 169 is let subject to the right of the public to use the same for landing purposes.

Conditions.

  1. There are no restrictions or limitations as to the number of reserves which one person may lease, and no declaration is required. Residence and improvements are not compulsory. No compensation shall be claimed by the lessees, nor shall any be allowed by the Government, on account of improvements effected by the lessees, nor for any other cause.

  2. Possession will be given on the date of acceptance of tender.

  3. The leases shall be for a term of seven years, but shall be subject to termination by twelve months’ notice in the event of the land being required by Government.

  4. The rent shall be payable yearly in advance.

  5. The lands are let for grazing purposes, and lessees will not be permitted to break up or crop any of the same without the written permission of the Land Board first had and obtained.

  6. The lessee shall use all reasonable means to prevent the spread of gorse, broom, and sweetbriar on the land comprised in his lease.

  7. The lessee shall destroy rabbits on the land, and shall prevent their increase or spread to the satisfaction of the Commissioner of Crown Lands or the Stock Department.

Land in Aohanga Survey District, Wellington, for Sale by Public Auction.

NOTICE is hereby given that the under-mentioned land will be offered for sale by public auction for cash at the District Lands and Survey Office, Wellington, on Wednesday, the 7th December, 1898.

WELLINGTON LAND DISTRICT.—WAIRARAPA NORTH COUNTY.—AOHANGA SURVEY DISTRICT.

Weighted with £107 2s. 6d. for improvements.

The above section is situated in the Dannevirke Centennial Block, on the King’s Road. The access is from Rakau-nui, which is about eighteen miles distant—viz., two miles by the Alfredton–Weber Road; then for seven miles by a formed horse-track down the Huia, Waikereru, and Wai-owaka Roads; the other nine miles by the Spur and other roads, which are being formed. The section comprises hilly land, with homestead-site on King’s Road. The soil is clay and sandstone, resting on a papa formation. The section is under English grass, on which manuka scrub has grown up. The section is not well watered. The elevation ranges from about 700 ft. to 1,000 ft. above sea-level. The improvements comprise—139 acres in grass, at 7s. 6d., £107 2s. 6d.; 110 chains post-and-wire fence, at 10s., £55: total, £52 2s. 6d.

Terms of Sale.—One-fifth of the purchase-money, together with the value of the improvements, to be paid on the fall of the hammer, and the balance, with Crown-grant fee, within thirty days thereafter; otherwise the part of the purchase-money paid by way of deposit shall be forfeited, and the contract for the sale of the land be null and void.

There are no restrictions or limitations imposed on the purchaser of this section other than above mentioned.
