Lands in Southland open for Selection on Lease in Perpetuity.

District Lands and Survey Office,

THE under-mentioned Crown lands will be open for selection for lease in perpetuity, under the provisions of sections 121 and 136 of “The Land Act, 1892,” on and after Thursday, the 24th November, 1898.

If more than one application be received for the same section, then the order of selection shall be decided by ballot on the following day, at 11 a.m.

SCHEDULE.

SOUTHLAND LAND DISTRICT.—SOUTHLAND COUNTY.—WAIKAWA SURVEY DISTRICT.

First-class Land.

These sections adjoin Waikawa Township, but the road to them is not formed. Sections 46, 47, and 56 are mossy and rough; Sections 50, 52, 53, 54, and 55 are steep, but the soil is good. Section 50 is burdened with £5 14s. valuation for clearing, grassing, and fencing. All the sections are sparsely covered with mixed bush of no commercial value.

Small Grazing-run, Southland, for Lease upon Application.

NOTICE is hereby given that the under-mentioned small grazing-run will be open for lease upon application at this office on Thursday, 24th November, 1898.

If more than one application be received, priority of selection will be decided by ballot on the following day, at 11 a.m.

Second-class Land.

Situated about eighteen miles from Otatau Railway-station. Land hilly and broken; soil poor; clay formation; vegetation, manuka scrub and fern. Height above sea-level, 400 ft. to 600 ft.

Situated about a mile and a half from Wakapatu Railway-station; bush land; soil fair. Section 58 is burdened with £8 10s. valuation for improvements, consisting of—hut, £4; clearing, £4 10s. Limit of holding in this village, 100 acres.

Sections in Townships of Ohau and Paraparaumu for Lease by Tender.

District Lands and Survey Office,

WRITTEN tenders will be received at the District Lands and Survey Office, Wellington, up to 4 o’clock p.m. on Wednesday, the 14th December, 1898, for the lease of the under-mentioned sections. If any sections are unapplied-for on the 14th December they will remain open for selection at the upset rentals, and for the terms stated herein.

Township of Ohau.

Township of Paraparaumu.

Sections 22, 23, and 48, Ohau Township: These sections are situated about half a mile from the Ohau Railway-station, which is on the Wellington-Manawatu line, distant about fifty-six miles from Wellington. Sections 22 and 23, in front of the main county road, are perfectly level and in grass, and have good soil on a sandy formation. Section 48 fronts on a formed road, has good soil on a shingle-and-clay formation, and is all in grass, about half the section being flat.

Sections 10 and 11, Block VII., Paraparaumu Township: These sections are situated on the main road, within a few chains of the Paraparaumu Railway-station, which is about thirty-three miles from Wellington on the Wellington-Manawatu Railway-line. The sections have good soil on a sandy formation, and are in grass and perfectly level.

Conditions.

1. Tenders must be accompanied by marked cheque or post-office order for six months’ rent at the rate offered, together with £1 1s. lease-fee.

2. There are no restrictions or limitations as to the number of sections which one person may lease, and no declaration is required. Residence and improvements are not compulsory. No compensation shall be claimed by the lessees, nor shall any be allowed by the Government, on account of any improvements effected by the lessee, nor for any other cause.

3. Possession will be given on the day of acceptance of tender.

4. The leases shall be for the term of years as specified above, but shall be subject to termination by twelve months’ notice in the event of the land being required by the Government.

5. The rent shall be payable half-yearly in advance.

6. The lands are to be let for grazing purposes, and the lessees will not be permitted to break up or crop any of the same without the written permission of the Commissioner of Crown Lands first had and obtained.

7. The lessee shall use all reasonable means to prevent the spread of gorse, broom, and sweetbriar on the land comprised in his lease.
