Arrangements for First Elections, &c., Berwick Drainage District.

HIS Excellency the Governor has been pleased to appoint

JOHN GRANT

to be Returning Officer for the purpose of conducting the first election of five members of the Berwick Drainage District, as constituted under “The Land Drainage Act, 1893”; also to appoint Saturday, the 17th day of December, 1898, to be the date, and the Berwick Public Hall to be the place, for holding such election; also to appoint Saturday, the 24th day of December, 1898, at 1 o’clock p.m., to be the time, and the Berwick Public Hall to be the place, at which the first meeting of Trustees shall be held.

THE following special order, made by the Eketahuna Road Board, is published in accordance with the provisions of “The Road Boards Act, 1882.”

EKETAHUNA ROAD BOARD.

Notice is hereby given that the following special order was made on Saturday, the 3rd day of September, 1898, and will be confirmed on Saturday, the 5th day of November, 1898:—

“That for the purpose of securing payment of a further sum of £20, being 10 per cent. additional to £200 borrowed by the Board under ‘The Government Loans to Local Bodies Act, 1886,’ for the purpose of formation on a portion of Mangaronga Road, known as Loan No. 2 on same road, a special rate of ¼d. in the pound be made and levied on the rateable value of the properties at the time the loan was raised, as follows—namely, following properties: Section 75, Blocks XI., XIV., and XV.; Section 76, Blocks X., XI., and XIV.; and an education reserve, not numbered, joining Section 76: all in the Mangaone Survey District. Such rate to be an annually recurring rate for twenty-six years, and shall be payable in two half-yearly instalments on the 1st day of January and the 1st day of July in each year.”

WAIPipi ROAD DISTRICT.—PUBLIC NOTICE.

The following is the result of the poll taken in the Road Board Office, Waiuku, on Saturday, 5th November, 1898, on a proposal to borrow the sum of £500 under the provisions of “The Government Loans to Local Bodies Act, 1886”:-

Number of voters on special roll, 57; number of votes exercisable, 61: Number of votes recorded in favour of proposal, 42; number of voters who voted for the proposal, 39; number of votes against the proposal, nil; number of informal votes, 1.

As the majority in number of votes and voters were for the proposal, I therefore declare it to be duly carried.
