Rural Lands in the Southland Land District open for Sale or Selection.

RANFURLY, Governor.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the one-hundred-and-thirty-sixth section of “The Land Act, 1892,” I, Uchter John Mark, Earl of Ranfurly, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, having received the report of the Surveyor-General in this behalf, as in the said section is provided, do hereby declare that the rural lands enumerated in the Schedule hereto shall be open for sale or selection on and after the fifth day of January, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-nine; and also that the lands mentioned in the said Schedule may, at the option of the applicant, be purchased for cash, or be selected for occupation with right of purchase or on lease in perpetuity, or, in respect of any land containing or supposed to contain any metal, mineral, or valuable stone, be selected on lease in perpetuity only; and I do hereby also fix the prices at which the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased, as mentioned in the said Schedule hereto, and do declare that the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased under and subject to the provisions of “The Land Act, 1892.”

Situated about twelve miles from Nightcaps Railway-station. Open river-flat land, mostly covered with silver-tussock; shingly. The sections are burdened with valuation for fencing as follows: Section 296, £6 9s.; Section 297, £5 5s.; Section 298, £7 8s.; Section 299, £3; and Section 300, £8 5s.

Situated about nine miles from Fortrose; road cleared, but not formed, to south-west corner of section. Clay soil, covered with peat in places; bush land, the timber consisting of miro, kamai, and rimu.

Situated about six miles from Waikawa Township. Contains 60 acres flat land, and is covered with light bush, with heavy undergrowth; well watered. Burdened with £50, valuation for improvements, consisting of house, £30; clearing and grass, £20.

Notifying Lands in Wellington for Sale by Public Auction.

RANFURLY, Governor.

IN pursuance of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the one-hundred-and-thirteenth section of “The Land Act, 1892,” I, Uchter John Mark, Earl of Ranfurly, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, do hereby appoint Wednesday, the eleventh day of January, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-nine, as the time at which the lands enumerated in the Schedule hereto shall be sold by public auction; and I do hereby fix the prices at which the said lands shall be sold as those mentioned in the said Schedule hereto opposite the description of such lands respectively.

These allotments are situated on the Alfredton-Weber Road. Land is level, covered with forest. The country land surrounding the village has been taken up in farms of 200 acres each.

Altering the Name of the Town of Birmingham.

A PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS by sections two and three of “The Designation of Districts Act, 1894” (hereinafter termed “the said Act”), it is provided that the Governor in Council may, at the request or with the consent of the Council of any county, city, or borough, alter the geographical name or designation of any place or locality in the colony:

And whereas the Kiwitea County Council has requested that the present name of “Birmingham,” within the County of Kiwitea, be altered as hereinafter mentioned, and it appears expedient to comply with such request:

Now, therefore, I, Uchter John Mark, Earl of Ranfurly, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, acting by and with the consent of the Executive Council of the said colony, do hereby proclaim and declare that the Township of Birmingham, in the County of Kiwitea aforesaid, shall, on and after the fourth day of February, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-nine, be called and known by the name of “Kimbolton,” and the name of the said Township of Birmingham is hereby altered accordingly.

Given under the hand of His Excellency the Right Honourable Uchter John Mark, Earl of Ranfurly; Knight Commander of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George; Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over Her Majesty's Colony of New Zealand and its Dependencies; and issued under the Seal of the said Colony, at the Government House, at Wellington, this first day of August, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and ninety-eight.
