PORT OF NEWCASTLE, NEW SOUTH WALES.—DEPTH OF WATER ON BAR.

THE following Notice to Mariners, received from the Local Marine Board, Newcastle, New South Wales, is published for general information.

It is hereby notified that the bar now carries 20 ft. 5 in. (low water springs), with the fairway towers in line. A little to the southward of the fairway line there is slightly better water.

Masters of vessels of heavy draught are cautioned against borrowing to the northward of the fairway, as the water shoals rapidly.

Notice to Mariners, No. 36 of 1898.

AUCKLAND HARBOUR.—POSITION OF PRACTICE MINEFIELD.

Wellington, N.Z., 26th October, 1898.

THE Auckland Harbour Board have notified that, a portion of the Auckland Harbour near the North Head having been granted to the Defence Department for a practice minefield, the said minefield will be marked by four red buoys, each 6 ft. by 4 ft., and is within a line drawn from the eastern rocky point of the North Head, east two cables, intersecting a line drawn S.W. by S. ½ S., four cables, intersecting a line drawn N.W. ½ W., two cables to the shore, and is inside of the 5-fathom line of soundings as marked on the Admiralty Charts, Nos. 1896 and 1970.
