Avondale Rifle Volunteers (Auckland),
with effect from the 8th August, 1898.
The commission held by the under-mentioned gentleman in the above corps will therefore lapse from that date, in accordance with paragraph 62, Volunteer Regulations, 1895.

Proposed Loan No. 54, Nae-Nae Road.
THE following is the result of a poll taken on 14th October, 1898, on a proposal to borrow £420, under “The Government Loans to Local Bodies Act, 1886,” to form Nae-Nae Road from junction of roads near south-west corner of Section 2, Block IX., Mangahao, westwards, a distance of 1 mile and 25 chains, and for metalling the soft portion thereof as far as funds permit:—
Number of ratepayers on special roll, 6, representing 8 votes: Voted in favour, 4, representing 5 votes; votes not recorded, 2, representing 3 votes.
There being a majority of votes and voters in favour, I declare the proposal carried.

BOROUGH OF PALMERSTON.
Notice under Section 39 of “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1886.”
NOTICE is hereby given that at a poll of the ratepayers of the Borough of Palmerston South, held in accordance with the above-named Act on Monday, the 17th day of October, 1898, to determine the proposal of the Palmerston Borough Council to borrow a sum of £2,000 under “The Government Loans to Local Bodies Act, 1886,” the following numbers of votes were recorded for and against the said proposal respectively:—
Total number of ratepayers on the roll, 178, representing 183 votes: Votes recorded for the proposal, 73; number of ratepayers voting for the proposal, 69; votes recorded against the proposal, 13; number of ratepayers voting against the proposal, 13; informal, 1.
And notice is hereby further given that, whereas a majority in number of the ratepayers did not vote in favour of the proposal, I hereby declare the said proposal to be rejected.

THE following special order, made by the Otahuhu Road Board, is published in accordance with the provisions of “The Road Boards Act, 1882.”

BY-LAWS of the Body Corporate called the Inhabitants of the Otahuhu Road District, made and enacted by and under Special Order of the Otahuhu Road Board, passed on Thursday, the 25th Day of August, 1898, and sealed with the Common Seal of the said Road Board on the 1st Day of September, 1898.
THE under-mentioned by-laws, except numbers 4 and 5, shall be in force within and shall affect the whole of the Otahuhu Road District.
In pursuance of the powers in that behalf vested in it by “The Road Board Act, 1882,” and its amendments, “The Public Health Act, 1876,” and “The Public Works Act, 1894,” and all other statutes it thereunto enabling, the Road Board of the Otahuhu Road District doth hereby ordain as follows:—

No person shall spill or cast, or allow any nightsoil or other offensive matter to be spilt or cast, into or upon any road or street.

No privy or earth-closet shall be permitted to be erected or to be or exist at less distance than 15 ft. from any house or building used as a dwelling, or any road or footpath, and no privy or earth-closet shall be permitted to exist at less than 5 ft. from any boundary-fence.

All privies and house-drains within the district shall be under the superintendence, government, and control of the Board.

No person shall bury, or cause or suffer or allow to be buried, any nightsoil or dead animals in any yard, garden, area, paddock, or other place whatsoever in the district situated in the following prescribed area—viz., All that portion of the Otahuhu Road District, bounded, starting at the northern corner of Fairburn Road at its junction with the Great South Road; proceeding in an easterly direction in a straight line to the south-eastern corner of Lot 9, Section 8, Village of Otahuhu; thence proceeding in a northerly direction in a straight line to the north-eastern corner of Lot 1, Section 5, of the Village of Otahuhu; thence proceeding in a westerly direction along the southern side of Queen
