Section 9, Block X., is on the Waiowaka Road. The access is from Rakaunui, which is about thirteen miles distant—viz., two miles by the Alfredton–Weber Road, and then by the horse-track down the Huia, Waikereru, and Waiowaka Roads for seven miles; the remaining four miles are at present unformed. The section comprises hilly land, with a good homestead-site on the Waiowaka Road. The soil is clay, of good quality, resting on a papa formation. The forest is light, comprising matai, rimu, totara, kahikatea, tawa, and black-birch, with a heavy undergrowth of supplejack, &c. The section is well watered by a branch of the Pakowai Stream. The elevation ranges from about 500 ft. to 800 ft. above sea-level.

Section 18, Block X., is on the King’s Road. The access is from Rakaunui, which is about eighteen miles distant—viz., two miles by the Alfredton–Weber Road, and then by seven miles formed horse-track down the Huia, Waikereru, and Waiowaka Roads, the remaining nine miles, of the Spur and other roads, being unformed. The section comprises hilly land, with a fairly good homestead-site on the King’s Road. The soil is clay and part poor sandstone, resting on papa formation. The forest is light, comprising black-birch, matai, rimu, totara, kahikatea, tawa, rewarewa, with a heavy undergrowth of supplejack, &c., and the area also includes about 30 acres of poor scrub land. The section is well watered by branches of the Pakowai Stream. The elevation ranges from about 400 ft. to 700 ft. above sea level.

The access is from Rakaunui, which is about twelve miles distant—viz., two miles by the Alfredton–Weber metalled road, and then by formed horse-track down the Huia, Waikereru, and Waiowaka Roads for seven miles, the remaining three miles being unformed. The section comprises hilly land, with a fair homestead-site on the Spur Road. The soil is clay and poor sandstone, resting on papa formation, and covered mostly with manuka scrub, with light bush of rewarewa, tawa, &c., at the back of section. The section is fairly well watered by the Maraimanga Stream. The elevation ranges from about 500 ft. to 800 ft. above sea-level.
