There are about 400 acres of heavy manuka scrub, and about 200 acres in English grass, where the fires have run. The section is well watered by a branch of the Pakowai Stream. The elevation ranges from about 500 ft. to 1,500 ft. above sea-level.
Sections 35, 36, and 9, Blocks X. and XI., are situated on the Sugarloaf Road. The access is the same as for Sections 29 to 34. The nature and quality of land and soil is similar to Sections 29 to 34. About 500 acres is covered with a light forest, comprising matai, rimu, totara, black-birch, tawa, and kowhai, with a light undergrowth of supplejack and karamea. About 200 acres is short manuka scrub, and 100 acres in grass. The section is well watered by branches of the Pakowai Stream. The elevation ranges from about 500 ft. to 1,500 ft. above sea-level.

The access is from Rakaunui, which is about sixteen miles distant—viz., two miles by the Alfredton-Weber Road, and then for seven miles by horse-track down the Huia, Waikereru, Waiowaka, and Spur Roads, the last seven miles being unformed. The sections comprise hilly land, with good homestead-site on the Makatote Stream. The soil is a fair clay, resting on a papa formation. The forest is light, comprising matai, totara, black-birch, rimu, rewarewa, tawa, and kowhai; there is also a good deal of manuka scrub, with an undergrowth of a mixed character. The section is well watered by the Makatote Stream. The elevation ranges from about 700 ft. to 1,200 ft. above sea-level.

The access is from Rakaunui, which is about fourteen miles distant—viz., two miles of the Alfredton-Weber Road, and then by horse-track down the Huia, Waikereru, and Waiowaka Roads for seven miles, the remaining five miles by the Spur Road, which is unformed. The section comprises hilly land, with good homestead-site on the Spur Road. The soil is poor clay and sandstone, resting on papa formation, and is covered with short manuka scrub. The section is well watered by the Maraimanga Stream. The elevation ranges from about 700 ft. to 1,400 ft. above sea-level.

The access is from Rakaunui, which is about ten miles and a half distant—viz., two miles of the Alfredton-Weber dray-road, and then by seven miles formed horse-track down the Huia, Waikereru, and Waiowaka Roads; the remaining mile and a half, of the Spur Road, is unformed. The section comprises hilly land, with a good homestead-site on the Spur Road. The soil is clayey, resting on a papa formation. It is all under manuka scrub, some heavy, and a good deal of it poor. The section is well watered by a branch of the Waiowaka Stream. The elevation ranges from about 600 ft. to 900 ft. above sea-level.

The access is from Rakaunui, which is about eleven miles distant—viz., by two miles of the Alfredton-Weber dray-road, and then by formed horse-track down the Huia, Waikereru, and Waiowaka Roads for seven miles, and the balance of two miles by the Spur Road, which is unformed.
