Front portion of this section consists of low rich flat, rather swampy in parts, and rises to the back in good easy limestone ridges; about 7 acres open, covered with grass and rushes, remainder mixed bush, which contains a good lot of rimu, matai, and hinau; a good stream runs through the section; altitude, 500 ft. to 1,500 ft. About seven miles and a half from Kaikoura by road.

This section consists of flat terraces, covered with fern and very stony; the soil is good in places, but would entail a lot of labour to get it into working-order; no water visible; average altitude, 400 ft. About six miles and three-quarters from Kaikoura by dray-road.

Flat terrace land covered with fern, tussock, and grass, with a few acres of light bush, suitable for firewood; very stony in places; permanent water; average altitude, about 300 ft. About six miles and a half from Kaikoura.

About 20 to 30 acres flat, remainder low hills; two-thirds of section is good limestone land, with excellent soil, the remainder rather dry ridges; heavy mixed bush, consisting of matai, rimu, white-pine, and totara on flat, and light bush on ridges; well watered; altitude, 500 ft. to 1,500 ft. About eleven miles from Kaikoura, by formed road and river-bed.

SECOND-CLASS LAND.

On lower portion there are patches of clearing; fairly good grass; the timber on the lower portion is fairly heavy, comprising a considerable quantity of rimu, matai, miro, hinau, kahikatea, pukapuka, and red-birch; 100 acres of indifferent tussock land at the back; about 300 acres of steep rocky spurs, practically useless, remainder, although stony in places, is fair bush land, and comprises some good flat on the southern parts; well watered; altitude, 500 ft. to 3,585 ft. About nine miles from Kaikoura by road.

Form of Statement of Affairs under Foreign Insurance Companies' Deposits Acts.

RANFURLY, Governor.

IN pursuance and exercise of the power and authority vested in me by “The Foreign Insurance Companies’ Deposits Act, 1894,” and “The Foreign Insurance Companies’ Deposits Amendment Act, 1895,” I, Uchter John Mark, Earl of Ranfurly, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, do hereby prescribe that, for the purposes of the said Acts, the statement of the affairs of every foreign company which has not been in existence twelve months to be furnished to the Public Trustee shall be for the period that has elapsed since its incorporation, and shall be in the form, or to the effect as near as may be, of the Schedule hereunder.
