to be British Resident at Rarotonga, in the Cook Islands, and to act for the Colony of New Zealand as Government Agent in all matters relating to trade. Appointment to date from 12th September, 1898.

THE following notice, received from the Mayor of the Borough of Whangarei, is published in accordance with the provisions of “The Municipal Corporations Act, 1886.”

WHANGAREI BOROUGH COUNCIL.
RESULT OF POLL on the Proposal to raise Special Loan of £8,000 for the Purpose of carrying out Water Scheme.
In accordance with the requirements of section 183 of “The Municipal Corporations Act, 1886,” I do hereby give public notice that the number of burgesses who voted in favour of the proposal was 119, representing 459 votes; against the proposal, was 36, representing 143 votes; the number who did not vote was 73, representing 262 votes. As these numbers show a majority both of voters and of votes in favour of the proposal, I do hereby declare the proposal carried.

I, James McKinnon, of Whangarei, Town Clerk, solemnly and sincerely declare that all the proceedings required by “The Municipal Corporations Act, 1886,” in the matter of obtaining the sanction of the burgesses to a proposal for a special loan, have been duly taken with reference to the special loan for £8,000 for which a poll of burgesses was taken on the 17th day of August, 1898; and I make this declaration conscientiously believing the same to be true, by virtue of the provisions of an Act of the General Assembly of New Zealand intituled “The Justices of the Peace Act, 1882.”

Notice by the Public Trustee under “The Unclaimed Lands Act, 1894.”
To the owner or owners of a parcel of land, containing 2 roods 23 perches (more or less), being Lot 27 on deposited Plan No. 277 of Rural Section 4310, situate in the Borough of Waimate, in the Provincial District of Canterbury, having a frontage to King Street of 125 links, by a depth of 515 links. The last registered owner is Julia Bowkett, wife of Edwin Bowkett, described as of Timaru, carpenter. Also,
To the owner or owners of a parcel of land, containing 2 roods 23 perches (more or less), being Lot 38 on the said deposited plan of Rural Section 4310, situate in the said Borough of Waimate, having a frontage to Princes Street of 125 links, by a depth of 515 links. The last registered owner is Christopher Tuite, described as of Invercargill, labourer.
WHEREAS the Public Trustee has instituted inquiries, and has not thereby ascertained who the owner or owners of the above-described lands, or either of them, is or are, and believes that such owner is, or owners are, not in the colony:
Now, this notice calls upon such owner or owners respectively, within six months of the date of the publication of this notice in this Gazette, to establish to the satisfaction of the Public Trustee his or their title to such of the lands specified in this notice as he, she, or they respectively own; and, if such owner does or owners do not, within the time limited, so establish his or their title, the Public Trustee will exercise the powers and authorities granted to him in and by “The Unclaimed Lands Act, 1894,” over either or both the said parcels of land.

To the owner or owners of both or either of the following sections of land, situate in the Parish of Waioeka, in the Provincial District of Auckland: namely, Section 216, containing 50 acres; Section 241, containing 50 acres. The last registered owner of both sections is Henry Reed, described as of Opotiki, settler, who cannot be traced.

WHEREAS I, the undersigned, the Public Trustee, have, for the purposes of “The Unclaimed Lands Act, 1894,” made due inquiries with respect to the land described in the Schedule hereunder written, and the owner thereof, and have, in respect of the said land, given the notices prescribed by section 4 of the said Act, and have in all respects complied with the provisions of the said section: And whereas I have not thereby ascertained who the owner is, and believe that such owner is not in the colony, nor has such owner established his title to the said land, as required by the said Act: I hereby give notice that the said land is, under and by virtue of the said Act, vested in me, as the Public Trustee as aforesaid, as from the date of the publica-
