Notice of Intention to take Land for a Road through Block VIII., Cloudy Bay Survey District.

NOTICE is hereby given that it is proposed, under the provisions of “The Public Works, Act, 1894,” to execute a certain public work, to wit, the construction of a road through Block VIII., Cloudy Bay Survey District, and for the purposes of such public work the land described in the Schedule hereto is required to be taken. And notice is further given that the plan of the said road and of the land so required to be taken is deposited in the Post-office, Blenheim, and is there open for inspection. And notice is hereby given that all persons affected by the execution of the said public work or by the taking of the said land shall, if they have any well-grounded objections to the execution of the said public work or to the taking of such land, set forth the same in writing, and send such writing, within forty days from the first publication of this notice, to the Minister for Public Works, Wellington.

Bonus for the Production of Quicksilver.

Mines Office,
Wellington, 17th February, 1898.

NOTICE is hereby given that a bonus of fourpence (4d.) per pound will be paid on the production of the first one hundred thousand pounds weight (100,000lb.) of good marketable retorted quicksilver, free from all impurities, from any mine in New Zealand, on the following conditions, that is to say:—

  1. That at least one-third of the quantity is produced on or before the 31st March, 1900, and the remaining two-thirds on or before the 31st March, 1901.
  2. No bonus will be payable until the whole of the one hundred thousand pounds (100,000 lb.) of quicksilver has been produced as stipulated to the satisfaction of an officer to be appointed by the Minister of Mines, and on whose certificate alone the bonus will be paid.
  3. In the event of more than one person producing the required quantities of quicksilver before the dates named, inquiry will be made by the officer above referred to, when, if it is found that each applicant is equally entitled to a bonus, the amount will be divided in proportion to the quantities produced by each applicant, but in no case shall any bonus be paid until at least one hundred thousand pounds (100,000 lb.) of quicksilver has been produced in the aggregate.

Resolved, That this Council approves of the lands proposed to be reserved as endowments for primary education, as set forth in Paper No. 38, of 28th June, 1898, being permanently set aside as endowments for primary education.
